Hey! I know that more-door Merc! I saw it at Back to the Beach in 2000. Good to see it's still looking good. Does it belong to a HAMBer? Here's the pic I took. Happy Birthday, Bill! Who said lead was bad for you??
That was the Lil Bat #1 and was introduced at the 1958 Autorama. It was recustomized into a bubble top and then disappeared in someone's back yard. The current car is Lil Bat #2 and is an exact copy of the original. I was there when Bill built the original in Michigan. He painted my "Jimmy Jones" bubble skirts for my 56 Chevy.
Amazing, got any pictures of the bubble top version of it??? when did he build Lil Bat #2. Is #1 still in existence or is it gone?
I saw one picture of the original, in bubbletop form, in someones back yard, but it was never finished and it was last seen just rotting into the ground. The #2 car was built about 10 years, or more, ago. Time p***es fast. I last saw the #2 at Starbirds Museum in Okla. Ironically, right over the Lil Bat, was a wall tribute to the El Matador, which I owned in the seventies.
