Born and raised in Washington, PA and lived in several western PA towns until 1972, when I moved to so. Cal. Now in Long Beach. Descended from coal miners and oil guys. Maternal grandad started Purvis Service in Mars, PA. One uncle on that side was a mechanic and owned Mac trucks, another worked for Gulf Oil. Our HS car club was the Road Knights where I tagged along with my future brother-in-law. We watched real stock car racing in the '50s at Arden Downs in Washington PA and sprint cars at Heidelberg Raceway near Pittsburgh. Saw a photo of Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, near Washington, and knew some of the kids my age. Dad drove a '55 Dodge Red Ram V-8, then switched to a navy blue and cream Chrysler Windsor. Never could talk him into a 300! I wish all the photos had a line or two about what it showed and where.
