Was there some crap there? Yep. Even is there were 100 lame cars, that means there were over 900 good ones. Find me somewhere with more bitchin tin in one place at the same time.

Kirk, I mean no disrespect. Like i said, it looks like there were a whole bunch of really beautiful cars at the show. That hi-boy that won is outstanding. Even that HEAVILY flamed plymouth is pretty damn cool (minus the skull and tacky spiderweb grill backing).

There is little question that Billetproof is the grandfather of the traditional rod shows. As far as I've read, Billetproof was created as a reaction to the high dollar shows. Maybe you guys were TOO successful? Looks like a lot of the cars have gone to the polar opposite

  8. I see that alot of people are complaining about some of the cars not being totally"traditional".I too can find many a car at a show i dont really like(or would drive/build for that matter). What it comes down to is you cant please everyone all of the time.Seeing a more non-traditional,hardcore,hot rod is something i can enjoy just as much as a dead-on period correct car.Like Kirk said,if there was 100 that sucked, there was 900 that didn't(or something to that effect).

Next time around i will make sure i dont take pics of the "ugly" cars and concentrate on only the cars that "fit"....at least it will save my battery/memory card for more orca-billy shots:D

I even got to meet The Boss! Hi Ryan

I usually shoot stuff that really turns me on or really turns me stomach. I couldn't bring myself to shoot one of the Turdor Sedan with the Sims Bowl Riders on the rear but here are a few of the latter.

I felt sorry for this poor little Falcon. It wasn't customized, it was decorated. The only thing missing was a Fonzarelli crybaby doll.. RESTRAINT, people. It might as well be a PT Cruiser.

and yeah, some DON'T get it. Good parts weirdly executed.

Don't even get me started about that Peterbilt monstrosity..

How do you describe toooooo successful? Would you like to see FEWER traditional rods, kustoms and motorcycles in one place?

I saw GREAT cars that i know cost under $6k to build, and I saw cars that I know cost over $100k. Which leads me to say... so what?

Does it matter how much the car cost to make? Kustoms can be expensive to make, even if you do ALLLLLL the work yourself and there are precious few out there that can make a show quality kustom all alone. Its expensive in time, put a dollar figure on that and the number gets big fast, particularly when you go to sell it. Again, so what?

The key to Billetproof has been, and still is, you can build your car how YOU like it, cheap or expensive, "finished" or in progress done up in a traditional style and have a venue for it.

as soon as you start picking on.. well this car cost too much to make... or I dont like the way the primer was done on this car... you are talking fashion and missing the point of the show.... The cars themselves and the venue to show them.

oh and I bet the guys/gals with the cars that someone thought were "crap" had just as much fun with their cars as everyone else did.

My buddy owns that car. I don't know who built it but the detail is amazing. There were a few little things wrong with it that he changed but it is an amazing car.

Thanks, I thought the wheel thing was just me. A lot of cars would have been better with the right wheels, but then again, its their car they can put whatever wheels they want on it

I love all the pix...even the cars that dont interest me...in fact I think I spent more time on them then some of the period correct cars. Kinda like a train wreck...you cant look away. To each their own!

and to be fair to the show...

for every 1 car there were 2 that turned the stomach? C'mon.

so there where only 333 cool cars at the show and 666 crappy ones ?

If that anyones honest opinion of the show... I REALLY dont know what to tell ya.

i generally dont get the custom stance (lower in rear than front) on hotrods-- they tend to look like an identity crisis in most cases. however, i'm liking a couple cars that are just parallel low on the ground-- no hot rod rake.... like the Alviso roadster. most that i like that have that stance tend to be roadsters, for some reason...

Sorry for running off topic though....... I had a great time at Billetproof. Brought both the wagon and my wife drove her new pickup. This continues to be one of my favorites.

You misunderstood my post. It's not that I'd want to see less traditional rods and kustoms, it's that a lot of what was posted is about as traditional as billet, and therefore becomes exactly what the show was intended to get away from. Just as tweed interior and tuned port small blocks aren't "traditional", neither is a cyclops rod adorned with spiderwebs and screaming skull air cleaners. Comprende? I'm not trying to get into the traditional/not traditional arguement, as it has been beaten like it owes us money, but a lot of what I see here is what I classify as "neo-traditional".

It's got nothing to do with money, and everything to do with taste, restraint and craftsmanship

God help the newb who just took a shot at Denise

So what was the last one?:D

I thought a few of those cars were scary, and few truly awesome. Thanks for taking the pics and posting them.

I get what you are saying.

Look at it this way, there are shows that are strict invitationals. Nothing that wasnt seen in a picture from the 40'-50's allowed. Billetproof has never been that way. Some cars are strictly "traditional", some cars have exaggerations of the traditional style, some are extreme exaggerations, some are subtle. Some can be seen as in "poor taste' by a few...

I look at it this way... they have always been invited in, hopefully the owners will see the styling of the MAJORITY of the cars and there and see how its done.

Thanks Rick for posting those pics. EVERY car there is top notch. I don't know if there is actually a 1:2 cool/shit ratio, it was just an arbitrary number thrown out there to illustrate a point

mister. . . watch who it is you're callin' out.

that woman flushes more class and style down the terlit every morning than you'll have in your entire life. Shes the little sister of damn near EVERY fuckin member of this board, not to mention a personal friend of MINE.

    tread lightly

  26. AMEN.......& ditto

Some very cool looking cars, first year I've missed in a loooong time, but have to say there has been more "crap" showing up each year too. The old skool rodz/lifestyle s*&t is really getting silly. That poor Falcon is a prime point, as is the coupe with the skull air intakes (unless the owner was making a statement and had his/her tongue planted firmly in cheek) as that car was bitchen otherwise but just had to have that "extra" little lifestyle crap on it. Anyway thanks for posting the pics everyone, I have no taste so disregard my above comments if you do not agree, and Denise IS the Queen by the way....

hey buddy - hands off hotrodladycruiser !!!

    a) She is right.
    b) She's more of a hot rodder than you'll ever be.

I was going point out the cars that I think are garbage - but it looks like it might be easier (and less enflamitory) to point out that were some really bad ass cars there (not many of which are pictured here).

    Stance!
