Thanks for all the picts folks! I never made it out of my booth to check any cars out, so sadly I don't have any photos to share this year. Thanks to all the folks who dropped by to say hi (especially the ones who bought stuff!) Now I just have to take care of this sun burn!
Hey Scott, as with most "cool guy" shows, it's all about who you know. I got **** for bringing my Chevy II there the first year, and it doesn't have billet or digital anything. I guess it's just too fast for greaser hair! Also, be advised... with a bunch of these scene guys, constructive criticism will just make enemies... and tears might stain their flat black too!
I had fun, Yeah there were a few cars I questioned but there were A LOT of new cars I've never seen before and that is cool. It was a very good show, great turn out dispite the heat and gas prices. Hell even the burnouts were great when at first there was only a 72 jeep in the contest! One suggestion is to include a note about minibike races in the flyer next year, YEAH I'm going to keep pushing it
I don't know who this chick is, but more than once I thought everyone was gonna see her ******* when the breeze kicked up. She had a killer figure.
this was my first billetproof attending and i ran into a old friend that i havnt seen in almost 15yrs, didnt even think he was into this stuff, i will keep going to this as long as its in michigan, lots of cool ideas and had a hell of a time,
There were a couple girls there that would have been advertising all their goods if they bent over the least little bit... but I wasnt about to complain. All in all, it was a good time, I wish i would have been able to stay longer, but other priorities made me leave early. The morning drive in from the north was an all time high, 29 cars... it had to be quite a sight, seeing that large line of cars making the 20 minute ride from our meeting spot.
Congratulations to Alan and our Detroit Poor Boys brothers on another great show. Looks like you had super weather too. Hmmm, something I noticed about Billetproof shows, they are barely over and almost immediately you hear "great show, can't wait 'til next year". I don't think I ever heard that at NSRA or Goodguys shows. Must be 'cause there is more to do than sit in lawn chairs... Nice going guys! Looks like it was a blast. Mike
C/T- The wife and I really enjoyed the show. Thanks for making it happen (I'm sure it must be a P.I.T.A. to do) A suggestion, if I may; perhaps you could make a list of names of all the whiney "correctness police" and next year have them go out into the crowd to tell the guys with cars that don't meet their standards to leave. Could be fun....
congrats to the detroit poor boys and alan...looks like it was a great show and some *****in cars..i'm glad the weather was good too alan had told me it always rains in detroit...march is comming around agian..i can't wait....rooster
it looks like Steve and Scott may have a "job" at next year's show. Just don't let Frank help cause if you do I won't get in
Good to hear the Detroit Billetproof went better than expected (cars and weather). Nice going Alan and our Poor Boy brothers in Detroit. I wish I could have made it back there this year. I agree with Alan in that there's always a few that slip throught he cracks. Especially when your out there and and have a big line of cars stacked up for registration. It happens, nobody's fault.
I happened to be near the entrance when this ...thing (for lack of a better description) rolled in. He went up the "I'm gonna go park in the parking lot area" lane and then hung a sharp left into the show. I suspect the gate folks said park it out back and the guy just did what ever he wanted after he got past them. They were at the leading edge of a large truck that had a trailer on it. Once he was by them, they probably couldn't see him turn into the show. Solution is easy for next year. Barricades. One side is into the show only the other is back to parking only. If you wanna limit what's inside you gotta control the entry point. That means closing the back gate to cars as well. I also watched like 8 bikes ride in on the other side (non-show) of the swap area and then filter through the cars and park. I doubt they paid their fee. They should have. Cool bikes too. When I left it looked like someone had knocked down the barriers to that entrance. It was great show. My brother and I would definitely go again. My brother said he would like to go and have something that fit in with the rules.
Must not read my posts then huh? I always have a blast a GG events. At most of the GG events lately they've been having an autrocross where you actually get to do something WITH your car as oppose to looking at them. Alot of the venues also have it where you can do laps on the track at night where the event is held. I've done Indy, Charlotte and Kansas City. That "event" is WAY cool! Comparing events on the HAMB like BilletProof to a GoodGuys event, say Indy, is like comparing apples to oranges. Go to a streetrod site and do the same and you'd have the folks there laughing at BilletProof. Get my drift. It is a shame that someone can't bring up a vaild point or critism without being jumped on. There is lots of suggestions I have but dare I say anything in my thread? Hell no, it's not my show and no one has asked for my opinion.
My twopence: First and foremost a big thank you to Alan and EVERYONE else who had a part in putting on what is(to me anyway)the PREMIER event of the season. To me it is a lot like what the old Ty-Rods Old Timers Reunion was about(and still is to a degree):A place to get together and admire some great vehicles and see some old friends(and reflect on those who won't be joining us anymore). I look forward to going there each year and will(hopefully)for many years to come.My only complaints were:I never seem to make enough time to get out and really see the show and I still don't have my Safari running. Again my thanks to ALL who helped make this show what it is and especially the,"weather gods" who once again saw fit to smile upon us. I would also like to apologize for completely forgetting about the Big Flake trophy. If possible could the person who won it send me a PM and I will send you a little something in the mail.
Looks like a great time was had by everyone. Wish I could have made it. Nice turnout! Can't wait to see some more pictures, and of course the whole story from Denise...
no one got jumped on. someone brought up a valid point and I answered his concerns. I explained what goes on at the gate. I do it at after every show, cuz there is someone that brings it up after every show. thats all.
I'm starting to think that KIRK! is the cause for the rain at Billetproof Michigan. He doesnt show up this year and no rain... but it rained in Indy where he was... coincidence? I think not.
Alan, one point of note. The gate between the parking area and the show was not manned so it is possible that folks could get through there, past the vendors, and into the show without permission. No one stopped us as I backed up the truck and trailer and we pushed our REGISTERED vehicle up the midway. I made sure we had our slip with us just in case but no one questioned us. I suppose some of those ice shantys and non-trads got through that way. On the 2 4x4s that I saw (one a nice '58 Apache, the other the tractor tired thing). They don't fit in my opinion. Maybe the front area should be the holding area for folks that want in but can't get in and then the show be the back area. Hard to say, not much room any more with the growth of the show. Perhaps the swap area could be moved out to there as well. Kind of stupid for them to be able to drive in with modern trucks with trailer loads of stuff (one guy selling a set of billet rims! duh!) but I had to unload and push all the way through because we didn't want trailers back there? I was 2 cars away from the swap trailers! Next year, no questions, I'll have it running!!! Take it as positive criticism. I had a blast. If there is anything I can do to help, I'd be glad to. I won't be the guy that says "you should do it this way" without saying "and I'll help if you want me to."
I guess I didn't realize people with non traditional type cars were sneaking into the event. Why would somebody with a car that doesn't fit want to be part of a show that doesn't want them there? I think there's a model A restorers club in town. Maybe I'll try and infiltrate their next gathering.
Isn't that what it's all about ? There will always be a small percentage of cars that are not entirely "suitable" to some people. So as the show grows, their number will increase. Not a major crisis. Life is hard. If it really bothers you that much, look at something else; or volunteer to be a Gate Goon and stand in the sun all day. I liked the black 4x4 truck, early body, steel wheels, black paint, what was the problem? No white walls ? No Mexi blanket interior ? Cuffs not high enough ?
