Screw Medford even if it has a drag strip. I think it would discourage many People from all of Washington becuase its a 200+ mile drive. I would vote for somewhere near Oregon/Washington border. And my club is too small and unorganized to host anything
Another big no for Longview. A lot of tweekers there. I also vote for the Portland/Vancouver area. There's a lot of locations in this area, and there's also a lot of amenities for out of towners...motels, parts, garages, bars, music, breweries, etc.
Well I am gonna have to "throw out" Spokane, since no one else has and I am here, although this place sucks ass!!!! I go to Hot Rod Arama every year so another trek to a kool old car show is NOT a problem!! although for me Moses Lake is my next choice as there is "the Lake" you can swim at if you need to cool off from the show. Would also be MORE THAN HAPPY to help you out in any way to pull this off!!!!! Ken
Downtown Orting. Nice small town. Middle of the I-5 corridor between portland and Vancouver BC. Much more pleasant than the big city cement feel of Tacoma. I can help with some bands if you need. Plus I have a band as well. Not knocking hotrodarama because it has turned into a fine show. But I have heard many folks complain about the setting because there in no camping or shade and limited rooms to stay. The kingsmen put on a show in Orting and it is a great setting. Orting is on the edge of the Mt Rainier national park which makes some nice backroads cruising. I would love to be part of a billetproof northwest. my e mail is voodoodauley@yahoo.com Please contact me and lets talk.
Orting WOULD be a good spot.....but access to the little town can be rough for out of towners.....the backroad drives would be very cool though for a mini run..... I'm with ya on the Hotrod-A-Rama deal.....no shade in an asphalt parking lot is not the best of conditions...... A small town with a nice park, with trees for shade, maybe some water would be the ticket.....Orting, Arlington, Shelton, Tenino, Lacey, Elma, ETC......
Hell YES! We've already got Hotrod-A-Rama here, if you want to see a good collection of cars, that would be the show to come to. I'd skip Goodguys... As for towns...Anything in WA or Oregon would pull quite a few cars out as long as it isn't too far off of I5. Hotrod-A-Rama is in Tacoma in August. If I were planning something, I'd shoot for early to mid September. The weather is usually good through the end of september, October brings a lot of rain up here. Perhaps Labor day weekend? Arlington has a nice old dragstrip and can hold an awful lot of cars. There's a few good clubs up this way in WA, although I don't know if many of them are large enough to pull something like this off. I bet Vancouver WA would be a good bet. I've heard nothing but good things about the SLO POKES, and that is a fantastic city to pull from WA and OR. my 2 cents. I hope this works out! I'd drive my Hudson anywhere....
If you want to get a feel for what's happening in the NW, Hot Rod a Rama, or Goodguys are the places to come and visit. A lot of us will be in Puyallup later this month at GG. NOT an event to miss, and Amocat usually has a nice event within the event that you will find most of the cool stuff there, and the cats to talk to. My vote would be for the site in Vancouver that used to host the killer event, maybe earlier in the Summer, or Septemberish, which is usually pretty nice. We would probably be able to get a dozen or so cars there - maybe and most likely more from McMinnville area alone. Maybe at PIR - which isn't as nice a venue, BUT has a dragstrip. Arlington is cool, but lots of events up north in BC and such, and Arlington may as well be BC as far as distance, Medford a nice place too, but pretty close to Cali and the Bay Area. It would be nice to have an event a little more centrally located in the NW. I think between us Hambers and local clubs we could provide manpower if needed. And that's my 3 cents worth!
That's what I am saying. I think Orting would be perfect too. I have been working on the shoebox. Been trying to get the top finished. It has been interesting. A learning experience. Ya ought to come out to the Camwinders show in Graham on the 21st. The Lucky Devils are playing. By the way... I am gonna get some more shirts made up. I will set aside one for you. You wear a large right?
I vote to get hooked up with the Slo Pokes, and have the event at Portland International Raceway, Lots of space and a DRAG" STRIP Clubs"!!! The Slo Pokes have alot of clout in the NW. They have the $$$$ and talent. Good Luck!!!! Cody HURST
Let's get this one rolling. I want another excuse to visit the Northwest before I eventually move back there!
My vote for Yakima or Moses Lake.......both great central locations to pull in the "wet side" of Washington and Oregon and Spokane, Cour d' Alene, Boise and probably even some of the Utah, Montana boys! Hell, there's even a couple o' dozen of us in s.e. Washington that would go!!!!! (HELL YES!!)
I would say Orting cause it is close to me. But it sounds like the Slo-pokes would have the club members to make it work. Plus vancover is a nice area. Eric
The Quarter Milers put on a heck of a show in Centalia WA, which happens to be smack dab between Sea-Port. Id go for one of the big four where the swapmeets are. Monroe, Puyallup, Centalia, Portland
Yakima has a very nice fairgrounds, lots of parks, and the local drag strip is independent and on an Indian res-they are open for most anything. Yes, it's warm in the summer but not unbearable. A pretty real town, working, town. Spokane has a nice faigrounds, the Deer Park drag strip isn't far away, warm weather and lots of enthusiatic people. Seattle has the people and the infrastructure but lots of big city concerns, plus the weather issue if it's not held between July and early Sept. Tacoma works well, as Hot Rod A Rama can prove. Portland/Vancouver has lots of people and perfomance history and should have a decent venue. It's getting very big and some of the Seattle attitude (cars are bad!) is creeping in. Events are not nearly as difficult to stage in Portland as they are in Seattle, plus PIR is right there. A small town like Orting would be great if the city got behind it, but there are lots of shows in the whole area now, so making sure that everyone knew it wasn't just another street rod/muscle car/betty boop display would be critical. You'd have lots of attendence wherever you went, as there are really very few traditional-oriented events in this area.
Your right about that.....although there is a show coming up in Graham, off of Meridian on July 21st, put on by the Camwinders.......I've got a flyer with the details (I'll post later)......it should be a good show for traditional cars. Everyone from Oregon to B.C. outta check it out! EDIT* CAMWINDERS HotRod show info....off the flyer..... Here are the details....Hotrod and Kustom car show......Sat, July 21st. 10:00 AM, Free admission, cheap food, live music, swapmeet....PRE-72 cars and trucks welcome. 27809 Meridian Ave. E. just south of Graham, over the hill.
Some things are brewing... stay tuned... I smell a Billetproof NorthWest coming around the bend. Keep those cards and letters coming kids. Ideas are good. Clubs stepping up to host is better.
I don't think the club I'm with is able to handle that big of an event. We already do several cruises, and a swap meet every year. Obviously P.I.R. would be a good choice. Also, any increased revenue there will help with the fight to keep it open. The city wants to build condo's there. But I'm also biased since I can't make long trips due to my kids.
