Well I dont know about you, but im not a world renouned rhythm/blues rock guitarist, ranked 32 on Rollingstones 100 greatest guitarists of all time. I also dont have a 40+ year history as a professional singer, songwriter, actor and internationally recognized collector of cars, guitars and African art, as is chronicled in the best-selling book he wrote about his collecting obsessions, "Rock + Roll Gearhead,". Im not a founding member of one of the most famous three piece rock bands in history that has sold over 60 million records and counting.
I dont have a guitar collection that includes the "Muddywood," which is constructed from fallen timbers from Muddy Waters' childhood home; or an original 1959 Gibson Les Paul Sunburst, valued above all others in the collection.
I dont own cars have become stars in their own right. The Eliminator, CadZZilla, Kopperhed and others that have been major attractions on the car show circuit and highlighted in numerous MTV videos, (which by the way still rank among the the most popular/requested in the networks history). They are considered art and icons of automotive design by enthusiasts as well as the top custom designers and builders in the industry. I havent been offered a million dollars to shave my beard,
nor have I been a recipient of such accolaides as state poet laureate, state musician, state two-dimensional artist and state three-dimensional artist, and most recently voted the "Texas State Musician" for 2012 by the Texas State Legislature.

But even though there appears to be alot of difference between me and Billy, we're both proud Texans and major hot rod fanatics, so maybe there is some semblence of obscure sensibility in such a bullsh!t statement.

Billy was given a ride in my 32 by it's former owner late 90s in Stockholm. The seats are not yet cleaned.....

I saw Billy Gibbons as I was walking out of the Continental Club he was walking in, he went out of his way and said hello, pulled his hand out and I shook his hand. Just a all around cool mo-fo.

 

That is another Texas celeb,, I used to drink coffee with her on occasion at a local coffee shop.

 

Bily used to come around the house pretty often, but he never brought any of his own beer, and then we started noticing the silverware missing, so...............................

I caught him signing his book at SEMA and strolling through the swap meet at the L.A. Roadster show. Regular car guy, jus' like us only richer...

 

yeah Billy F is cool for sure but i would much rather put my eyes on his super hot wife "Gilligan" she looks even better in real life than any photo i can find on the web,

Remember Euell Gibbons that was the spokesman for grape nuts? He said "Have you ever ate a tree? Many parts are edible" Always wondered if they were related like Euell told me they were............

 

Ringo Starr,paul McCartney,Pete Townsend, and Roger Daltry. I did like the pinstripe pattern on the inside cover of the eliminator c.d. enough to get a tattoo of it on my right arm. {pictures later if I can figure out how}

 

I've never met him but I think he asks about me often.........

 

So what everyone is saying is know one actually knows him????? yawn...

 

A point of the clarification... many HAMBers know him quite well, but no way would they respond as such to this thread. Suffice to say he's known to be as cool as we all hope he is.

 

Quite a few years ago, I was running the gate at Club Congress for the Tucson Grease Ball that Hot Rod Ron used to do every year. We had the parking lot full, so I was chilling waiting to enjoy the show which was underway when two gentlemen and a young lady approached me asking what was going on. I immediately recognized Mr. Billy Gibbons who had his bands drum tech and that guys daughter in his entourage.

I escorted them in and handed them off to Ron to show them around. The three stayed for a few hours, checking out the cars and talking with us...I think a few locals here even regularly talk to him as a result of them mingling.

The guy is nice and a real gear head. He's one of us who just so happens to rock a guitar for a job.

 

I have met him a few times, very nice guy. A buddy of mine had his old Impala convertible that had the Moving Sidewalks on the door. Billy's first band.

That would sound odd if I didn't understand. Before Jay Leno's shop got as big as it is now, before [FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]Bernard[/FONT] was the shop foreman, a friend of mine would spend blocks of time in CA helping on assorted projects. He avoids telling people he knows Leno because people bug him to meet Leno, get on Leno's show, try to get to Leno through him to promote whatever, etc, etc.

 

I talked to him at Louisville one year. I was checking out a particularly sweet flat head powered '34 hiboy coupe with scallops and wide whites when this dude walks up and sticks his head in the passenger side window to check out the tuck n roll. When he straightened up I realized who it was. He asked if the coupe was mine. I said, "I wish." We BS'ed about flat heads and the (then) new wave of traditional cars showing up. I made a crack about the billet thing wouldn't have gotten nearly as big as it was if it hadn't been for that there Eliminator car. He grinned like a possum eatin persimmons and said see ya around and walked on down the line. The thing that impressed me was that he was by himself. No entourage or even a side kick. Just the man hisself out looking at cars. I watched as he walked off and to my surprise it looked like maybe 1 in 150 people recognized him.

 

That is all anyone needs to consider, regardless of the fact that anyone here "knows him" or not...

Don't know him, never met him and probably never will, but I really like his music and taste in cars! He is a symbol of cool, oh yeah, his wife is......
