I'm thinking about grabbing a t-5 for my truck, and the nearest pull-a-part I can find is in Birmingham...anybody ever go there? Is there any other self service yards around there or, better yet, in Huntsville? I just don't wanna pay out the nose for an S-10 transmission that I could pull by myself...

Good luck finding one. Whenever I go to my local, most of them are gone, and the good stuff is picked clean.

I've never used it because the hours are not convenient. They are not open on weekends. How stupid is that? I guess they are catering to the unemployed?

  5. A pull-a-part not open on the weekends!?!? You might want to check again. I love mine just for the fact that it's open on Sunday. And yes, you have to be VERY lucky to pick up a good T-5 from there. Make friends with the guy behind the glass and ask him to call you if one comes in. A finders fee helps too.

The website says they are open weekends, and they currently have a bunch of S-trucks in there...I figure it's worth a try, unless someone has some really good reason to stay away from the one in b'ham.

    Thanks

Been to the pull-a-part in B'ham. $1 to get in. There are other yards in the vicinity, but not self-serv.

I'll try to get out there at lunch today and verify the hours for you. I was by there (several months ago) and they were M-F only. I had gone by at lunch on a weekday to check out what time that they opened on Saturdays. Sign only gave hours for M-F. It didn't specifically say closed on Sat., though. Maybe they've realized that being closed on the weekend was dumb or maybe they just have a sign problem!

I don't know anything about them or their prices. I've never talked to anybody that has said that they have bought anything from there.

The old sign is gone, and the new sign says:

    Car Buying M-F Only
    Open 7 Days
