Man, these are awesome! Ever hear of Wolk Design? I recognized the name I thought, and lo and behold, after reading their site (which needs some help, by the way) I noticed a few cover cars I recognized! But who knew these guys made air cleaners, let alone cool ones, right in my backyard (over in Leavenworth, KS - where "The Weak are Killed and Eaten (TM)")? Here's a link to the site: http://wolkdesign.net/ They make mostly air cleaners. Here's some 4-bbl ones: Some for 2x4 applications: Some for 3x2 setups: And they make some accessories, like radiator and breather cap covers and bullet center caps: The stuff they make is second to none, and has a certain something that others don't seem to have... it's hard to describe, but I'm sure it's because they're made with that secret ingredient that not many implement these days: LOVE. These guys seem to love with they do. You can see it in their faces as they talk. You can see it in every car they touch - from the ones they build to their daily drivers... that they also built. Most of all, you can see it in their product - made the old fashioned way, one at a time, with "old-world craftsmanship" (like they say on furniture commercials on TV). If you're looking for that "something special" to top off your car, skip some readily recognizable ****, and go for a part from Wolk Design... you'll be glad you did, every time you lift your hood. And damn... that sounded like a commercial. Sorry, but they really do rock, and everybody needs to know about 'em. Just spreading the word! ~Jason
A friend told me about them years ago. I had the Helling's style dual quad set on my old 32. REAL nice stuff. When i sold the car, i kept the air cleaners
Yeah, I hear Dave Wolk made those. Everybody else I've talked to says that the quality is second-to-none... just like the way you'd make it yourself, for yourself. BTW, I've heard that James Wolk is working on a Divco trock - not a milk truck, but a real truck. He's grafting a Divco front end onto a '57 Reo cab and is now looking for a bed to go on it. These guys are the real deal, and live it/breathe it/do it/etc, man! ~Jason
Hell yeah they're nice stuff! They impressed me enough to go around posting about 'em. They have some weight to 'em, not like the JC Whitney ****. Like I said to a guy on OSR, there's no way I was sittin' on THIS info! ~Jason
I think the only thing that's their product is the center cap. Right? In that case I don't think it's boring, just different. IMO, it's about time someone made an accessory that sets this style wheel apart and the center cap certainly does that. Very subtle Frank
That's what I took away from it, man - in that picture just the bullet cap is their product. Jeez... can you imagine the extra stuff they'd have to do to make wheels? Their product line seems to indicate a spun metal shop. ~Jason
According to the site, here's some of the cars they've built. Looks like early Cadillac power and nailheads are a staple:
Here's a pic I found on their site that shows those center caps from a different angle. You know, they DO set those wheels apart.
That I'm not sure of. But if they are, you can bet they're cheaper from the source... that is, if Riley is turning a profit! ~Jason
Ummm... not always true. With a HAMB discount you can get my wheel covers cheaper from Riley than you can from me - and I'm the source. Also: agreed that the above products are great quality. I've had several in my hand and those guys don't cut corners anywhere.
Yeah. I found 'em in this thread, in a posts from Alchemy and contentinaljohn: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50414 ~Jason
Nice 'filters'. Not too many ripples, neat flared skirts. Certainly give an' "old school" look. Too many cars run poor 'filters' and let down the look of their engine presentation. Any billet 'filters' are almost 100% no-no (always exceptions). Cool stuff.
The quality of these air cleaners are second to none. Here are some real world pictures of a friend of mines 32 Roadster with Monster 351C.
If I'm not mistaken, I have a set of those on the dual quads that I got from JimA/McPhail. They've been modified to fit together in a tight confines of the two carbs. And they are uber cool. Vance
They ARE really cool. Here's a few other pics I rustled up from their site: They need to come to the HAMB drags... ~Jason
And yeah, they seem to fit pretty well in tight places too, Vance. If I went with two carters on my Poly 318, these are the type I'd use. However, I'm stickin' with my 3x2s! ~Jason
