I just bought black and decker valve grinder and it came with some extras. Does anyone know what these are for.
The machine seems like it wouldn't need collets. It looks like some kind of master collet is in the chuck already but it does 2 heads that hold the valve. Not sure why there is an extra. There is also another master collet in the box
Yes . I may still have a seat grinder motor, you would need pilots and stones. Kinda like a high speed hand drill.
I have a sioux setup for grinding seats. I have a sioux valve grinder also but couldn't pass on this for 50.00
Looks like a pretty complete set of collets. Most likely you won't be refacing any valves with the size 52 collet (does that correspond to a #52 drill?), but having all these sizes means you can grind an angle on any tool or work piece, not just valves. In one picture some of the collets look pretty rusty or mucky.
What Jack said. Although they need some serious derusting !! And actually, they are meant to hold ANYTHING round and of said diameter on the end of each collet. Mike
I'm not sure these collets are for the valve grinder. I seen some like it on ebay and it said they were for a black diamond drill grinder
Buy some powdered citric acid from Amazon and mix it with water in a plastic bucket or tub. Put the collets in and let them soak for a couple weeks or longer. I'd knock or wipe the heavier rust off the collets before immersion. Also save enough acid to dump the first batch out and make a cleaner second batch after the 2 weeks or so. Rinse the collets and place them in the second batch. Should come out looking very nice.
Collets with male threads could be for a harding chucker style lathe. female would be a bridgport mill. The 2nd to last photo looks like it could be the motor for a tool post grinder on a lathe
I'm pretty sure the collets are for something else. It came with 2 different collets that have a lot of range and would cover most valve stem sizes. The collets have no threads. The motorized part I found out is a hall toledo seat grinder and the it has a couple pilots but no stones. The other thing that uses air is for tighten the valve in the machine. It goes in place of the hand wheel. A valve runs out about .001 in the collet. Should it be closer.
.001" runout on a valve grinding machine is acceptable. My opinion from my experience in working at auto machine shops and as a general machinist.
