Posted this before, this is just an update. This is a HAMB event for HOT RODS AND BIKES. Several HAMBers will be in the area on bikes anyway so we are mixing it up. The main shindig is Saturdays Reliability Run through the Black Hills. It will be approx 100+ miles of twisty, hilly driving. We are working on a couple cool stops, one is a killer garage crawl. It will be held August 6,7, 8th of 2004. This is the weekend before the official start of the Motorcycle Rally on Monday the 9th. I have camping arrainged at a private ranch a few miles from Sturgis, between Rapid City and Sturgis. Tentatively have a preferred parking area in downtown Sturgis on Friday night for the group (hot rods and bikes). If you have been to the rally you know what a coup this is, the town becomes motorcycle parking only! All are welcome, I am inviting a few locals that have "HAMB approved"tm rides. This is a low key weekend but there WILL be crowds and traffic in the HIlls, it is afterall the Rally. Look for 300,000+ people in the region by Saterday night. THat said, we will be able to get around and taste the hills in a unique way. I will keep ya posted as time gets closer.
Only 1492.31 miles...hmmmm.....wonder when the Hamb Drags is gonna be? Could be a two week road trip! Brian
Cool! I am not looking for a huge crowd, we are too far from everyone for things to get too out of hand anyway. The Greez family is always welcome If things work out, there were car drags that weekend as well.
Tman count me and the wife in. What about that guy down the street from your work ( the one with the old diner)? I have been on the lot but not in the main building. Don't know if it would fit in your time frame. What ever you come up with is fine with me.
Tom, Tim, I knew you guys were in anyway Lesters place is a possible stop. Maybee plan a lunch in the Diner?
tman, would you object to folks bringing their harley on a trailer so's that we could do hot rods with the hot rod crowd and then do bikes with the bike crowd later?
well, actually, if i put it on a trailer to come out there it'll be the first time on a trailer. i don't even have a trailer; i'll have to borrow one or make one. wherever my bike goes i'm there riding it. i've only been to sturgis once, but it seems that about 1 out of 4 bikes came in on trailers or in trucks. a gal i once knew went to sturgis with her husband every year, and they rented an enclosed u-haul trailer to take their bikes (they both rode) and luggage. i asked her one time about why they didn't ride out there. her response was that it took half the trailer just to haul her makeup and clothes.
