its gotta be black and the deepest black out there..... so what you want is PPG DCC9300 concept black.. its is a single stage and by far the best you will get.

If you're all set on black "with some effects", you can do another color of pearl over black. Gold would be MY last choice. Red, blue, purple, look much better over black. All depends on your personal tastes. HOK has color charts that show the different colors over white and black. They also make a nice black Pearl paint, which is black mica flakes...doesn't flip to another color, and it isn't 3 stage, it's 2, base and clear. It's nice, but not a real dark black. but it does reflect light very nicely.

  4. I've seen black with gold or silver metalic mixed in it. I guess you would call it metalic black?

I don't really care for it.

You can blow some really small flake over it or you can do what we used to call an overspray. Gold over spray was most common, but I've seen silver and even colors. Basically you get your base color down and then you fog the spray booth with what ever color over spray you want. It mostly collects on the high areas IE betline, fender tops, hood, roof, and bulges that are faceing up.

Afterwards use some clear to seal it up wet sand and buff. I always thought the effect was pretty cool given the right vehicle and the proper finess but I'm kind of a strange duck.

BTW this may be just a later '50s early '60s Nor Cal thing.

  6. Thanks for all the comments. I guess a deep black would be cool.

If this is the car Rikster did a photochop on in another thread I would say Gene is on the money. With a few changes (small ones) this car will really come alive. Found this clor chart at www.autocolorlibrary.com It's a 1954 color card but the 55 card also shows Titian Red Poly as a 2tone color option.
