Howdy... The wheels are 16" front and rear, with the fronts being 4" and the rear 4.5....I didn't measure, but it seems the offset is a tad different also.

    Hello,

A by product of any car/truck or custom hot rod is always enhanced with different style of wheels/rims. The easiest way to enhance any car is to get chrome rims, or at least, it was the thing to do back then. But, as the “mag” wheel trend came with its high dollar costs, the random copies that lowered the cost and started an alternate trend, took over. So, it was back to something simple as a black painted steel rim for the cool look.

Then as more folks painted the standard steel rim, new possibilities opened up to find unusual steel rims to highlight a custom car or hot rod. One likes to have some individual tastes a little different from everyone else. So, comes the search for unusual stock steel wheels that will enhance the hot rod or custom car/truck build.

When I first photographed the custom Dodge Truck, I assumed the steel wheels were an accessory from Dodge. But, in researching the available accessories, the steel rims are custom to my eyes.

At any angle, the rims highlight this custom Dodge Pickup Truck and as always… “We all like a nice rear end…”

    Hello,

Black paint does wonders on old wheels. If the prep is done first, the paint will last through a lot of exchanges and versions of your hot rod or cruiser. If there is one thing, black paint will change the look of any car that comes from the factory or previous owner with a flare. Somehow, the black creates a shadow that highlights what is on the car.

When my brother first got his 1951 Oldsmobile Sedan, out came the different sprays to see which color looked better than the stock Pale Yellow that came with the car. Since it was not bright yellow, the black rims did not make it look like a rolling bee. It was the same story for his new 1958 Impala several years later. The stock color that came from the factory did not look as good as a newly sprayed black set of rims.

We saw a nice blue 1936 Ford coupe sitting in a custom hot rod garage parking lot on one of our coastal drives. The first thing one noticed was the bright blue paint. Then the next thing was the nice combination of black rims, the chrome trim rings and smooth center hubcap combo. That made it look rather nice and not over the top. No “mag” 5 spokes or chrome versions of any wheel. Just a statement of color and a contrasting chrome additions.

Perhaps the blue color was the attraction while driving by, but overall, this Ford Coupe was one of the nicest seen on the road or in this case, in a parking lot. YRMV

    Hello,

In our road trips to various places in So Cal since the pandemic struck us like a red brick falling on our heads, restrictions have put a damper on travels and gatherings. So, daily sightings make our days when we are in our family business errand days.

We have seen this old Chevrolet truck sitting in one spot for many months, wondering if it ran or is is a bucket of rusty patina and non functioning motor. Although it still had the good looks of a cool truck, in the salt air daily and nightly attack has done wonders to the paint and body parts. My wife always got a chuckle when she saw this truck. There is that old rusty truck again. For months we had seen the truck parked in the same place, but one day it disappeared and has been missing for almost a year.

Of all things, we saw it on the streets of this coastal beach town moving under its own power. Will wonders ever cease? So, this old truck had some changes made, adjustments to what was under the hood and now, it is a driver of sorts. After that one sighting on the road, we saw it one other time many months ago, so possibly, it has moved on to another chapter in its life, elsewhere.

One thing remained constant, the black wheels still looked good despite the environmental conditions in these coastal climates. With the advent of living/working in a salt air environment, unless one takes the car/truck into the actual salt water, like the boat ramp at the local harbor, it will get rusty just from the daily afternoon salt air that blows into the land area. By chance has anyone got some 18"x 4.5" or thereabouts 5 lug steel wheels (can work with most bolt patterns)

I always run steel wheels on my cars, black, red and tan. This is the first for black wires. 9xxXngAaSMuvvVqg2H0lXA.jpg aF79of1bT92oDAHKA7Fbow.jpg aod6QDOwQBW+NLlQch4VuQ.jpg sm6U4nTPSpGmLCwkVJgd8g.jpg
