Hot rodders from at least four states gathered at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale, Arkansas on June 13 to drive in the inaugural Blacktop 150, hosted by the Rollin' Relics of Northwest Arkansas (or NWA around here!) We began with a "Hot Rod Breakfast" graciously provided at low cost by the owner of Western Sizzlin' who himself is a gear head. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits with sausage gravy, cinnamon rolls and coffee and we were ready for the drivers' meeting. Then a little after 9 a.m., we head south on old Hwy 71 through Fayetteville, Greenland, Brentwood, West Fork, Winslow, Mt. Gayler, Inspiration Point and all the way down to Lake Fort Smith State Park where we stopped, toured the visitors' center and enjoyed the scenery. From there we headed south again to Hwy 282 and turned west to Rudy. We continued west to Hwy 60, then to Hwy 348, north on Hwy 59 to Hwy 45, to Hwy 62 by Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, ending up near the Old Mill at Johnson at Peg Leg Hot Rods on Trout Farm Rd where a delicious smoked rib dinner with all the fixin's awaited us, prepared by Robert Waddell (aka Habitual Smokers compe***ion BBQ team). The weather forecast was for thunderstorms and we got a little but not a lot (although as it came down, it sure seemed like a lot). It was a great time and we are looking forward to next year. Y'all come!
I didn't get photos of all the cars because (1) the sky opened up and started pouring down rain and (2) the ribs were ready to eat! Maybe someone else can add to the photos, especially if anyone got shots of the scenery along the route, Fort Smith State Park, etc
We had a great day. Fantastic food with a few old friends and many new friends. Thanks for putting the event together. Great route and food. Looking forward to next year.
