Okay, i have a new project, not very hamb friendly, its a 64 plymouth savoy 2dr.post. It needs floor repair, a couple of patch pannels. Ive been stripping it completly down, removing everthing, wiring and all, i plan on a tolal restore. I'm doing the work i can by myself. Now the question, would it be better to have it blasted and some primer before i start the rust repair or after? Seems like it would be easyier to work on if it was blasted clean. Now ive searched and read everything on here about blasting, some say dont do the sand it will warp, some say use this or that but it want remove the rust, i dont want to dip it, so what should i do? Thanks.
If the floors are solid enough to move and have the blaster rotate around etc, then blast first... If you think the body's going to fold up like a soggy chalupa when you take it off the frame or to the blaster... Patch first. I plat to patch and get my roadster body solid first and then have it blasted prior to finishing... (I burned through too many stripping disks trying to do it myself)
Blast first.....then patch. The body won't fold up when pulled from frame.....it's unibody. Got pics? A '64 Plymouth is a pretty bitchin' car.....and NOT OT if done like an SS.
Ask around and find a blaster with a good reputation. I have one local to me who did a TR4 that I had, and caused absolutely no distortion anywhere. I was wrapped. But I know of another guy who routinely has thin stuff cherry red while blasting.
I always blast first so I can find all the rust that needs repaired. Even on solid cars you will be suprised at what you'll find.
