So I've seen three distinct types of idlers brackets, the snout mount / swing arm style, the blower mount style, and the block / water pump mount style. I'm running a converted 8v71 on a bbc with a standard intake and an adapter I made. This will be a street car only. 13.9mm pulleys and 3" kevlar belt. It'll be run under driven with low boost, maybe at the most, 1:1 drive if i pick up another pulley. Is there any reason to use one type of idlers bracket versus the other? I mean, is the snout / swing arm style only up to a certain amount of hp? Is seems like the blower mount / block mounts are more prevalent in the kits sold these days and the swings arms are more old skool.
The snout swing arm and blower mount idlers are more universal and will work with different engines while the block mount is engine specific. Properly done, any of the styles will work fine. The early blower pioneers used all types, but your 8V71 blower isn't exactly traditional, so the style doesn't really matter. With your unique unusual set up, use whatever you can make work with your combination and the belt length you have.
