Blown BBC temp problem?????????

    My blown 427 Chevy was fine till 4 weeks ago. First it warmed up to 180, so up the street I go......then climbs to 240 for a few seconds then back to 180 & it stays there????? I just changed to a new 180 thermostat......same thing almost, but this time 220!!!!!!!! For some reason number 1 cylinder melts the new Taylor wires (90 degree boot):mad:........pls help, its driving me nuts:confused:

    I have this same problem all the time. I think its the new peice of **** thermostats, they dont open when they are supposed to. My 55 with a blown smallblock is the same way. It was fine till I changed the thermostat, now it dont open till like 230*, my brothers 51 Ford is doing the same thing with a new thermostat. They are supposed to be 180* thermostats to.

    I had a motorhome with a 454 and it did the same thing. I put a high flow 180 degree in it and it fixed it. JC
