What's the best means of ventilating a blown engine? Valve cover breathers, intake manifold vent tube, PCV valve, a vented catch can or a combination of the above? Esthetically four breathers on the valve covers hits right, a reminder of many scale models built as a kid. But those were quarter mile cars and this is a street car.
I'm partial to PCVs. The valve limits the vacuum on a blower that ****s harder than a normally aspirated engine.
I have a couple buddies who have been running blowers on 390's for 10+ years on basically stock longblocks with great success, one on a 67 Mustang, the other a 64 Gal- and since I just came into a nice Weiand 8-71 setup yesterday, that's a good question to ask them
Run your PCV from the carb base to the drivers valve cover in front and use a vented oil filler cap on the p***engers side rear and you will be golden. Feel free to mix and match, but the idea is **** from the carb above the pressurized manifold and vent crosswise on the engine. -Abone.
I have to agree , no blow by goin through the blower for me . Valve cover breathers and road draft tube for me Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Blown motors like a vacuum pump. We use Ford smog pumps around here. breathers on the rocker covers and vac to the crank case.
You would think blow by through a blower would be a bad thing, but actually the blower doesn't give a ****. It is a positive displacement induction compressor, you could run an air/Kool-Aid mixture through it and it wouldn't care. The carbs mix the air/fuel, it is the blowers job to squeeze it tight enough to make more pressure below it than above it. The presence or not of blow by in the circuit does not matter. -Abone.
Never had an issue with valve cover breathers on a blown motor for over 25 years. But I'm partial to simple and effective solutions. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Breathers are all that is needed. PCV? Its your choice, some guys use them on blown engines some do not. That subject has been debated to death.
Jmo, but better to have them than to take a chance and not have them, I'd do what makes me feel comfortable and sure if my self lol, HRH Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app HotRod Harry
