On 39 Ford tail lights ... they seriously dim the lights ... and the POLICE in my area write tickets if you run them ... :)

  3. I believe they are illegal here in Wa. But only as a point of one more thing a cop can cite you for if you piss him off type thing. I still see them around on some cars and sell a few sets a year at work.

I had'em on my 50 Ford sedan. The local fuzz stopped me one night, said he couldn't see my tailights, I could see em fine. Then 3 more of his buddy cops showed up and told me if they saw me driving it with them again they would impound my car, yeah right.

Then the state patrol stopped me, he said, "boy are you the police" I said no, "well only the police can have blue lights".

Well what really pisses me off is that the tuner guys can have LED windshield washers, tire valves, lights around the tag, under the car,in the interior, but they just go right on.

Its a shame I had to take em off, they make a really cool ghostly glow at night, some people don't like em but I thought they were neat.

I ran them on my 50 chevy. never got hassled really. Only once a cop said something, but I just told him :"thats how it was when I got it.." and he let me go with a warning. I think they look cool at night.

I run them on my daily 48 pickup. They're legal here thanks to a local senator who is a car guy.

They do tend to wash out the tail lights or disappear in bright sunlight, so I've painted the inside of the light buckets with white paint and use 2357 bulbs. Also installed a 10" LED third brake light in the rear window. Getting rear-ended isn't any fun - been there, done it........

I run them on the modified and on the F100 and have never been hassled about them.

Maybe the cops down here have better things to do with their time.

    Because they're ugly.

OK, so that's just my opinion. But if I have the choice between a nice, clean red lens and a lens with a big blue herpie on it, I'm going for the clean look. Plus the illegal thing, although that probably woudln't stop me from using them if I liked the looks.

  17. I've been rearended 12 times in 8 yrs. Many times i've followed rods with bluedots and they just don't stand out especially in areas with lots of other competing light sources.Yes they look cool, but fixing your ride because someone doesn't see you is not.

I don't want to jack the thread, but is there a way to do an LED conversion to make the light bright enough even with blue-dots?

I think it was an 80's thing, along with wire wheels and raised letter tires. When I bought my truck it was the first thing I removed. It's a "street rodder" thing (you have to wear a cocksucker cap and have a big belt with your name on the back).

Not something you want on a "hot rod."

  23. WTF? An 80s thing? Man they were popular in the late 50s and much of the 60s too.

  24. They do kill a lot of light on 38/9s, which are marginal anyway. I had them years ago and got pissed off with the lack of "effective" brake light factor. The last straw was when they started appearing on everything including mid 60's Falcons etc, that's when you know it's definitely time to lose them. Gook wagon accessory now (possibly always), along with the fuzzy dice. IMHO anyway.

Really? Maybe my mind is going, but I just never saw them in magazines or locally (pacific northwest) when I was a kid. I started noticing them at NSRA events because everyone had them.

  26. I remember them on cruisers back in the '60s. Impalas, Starfires, Wildcats, Rivs, Caddys, TBirds. The look was new car with custom paint, nice wheels, slightly lowered stance and small touches like the blue dots. They look cool as hell at night.
