Hello, One of the earliest films I took was the wandering around the pits version of 1958 Lion’s Dragstrip. we already knew what a 34 Ford 5 window coupe with full fenders looked like, as it parked in our driveway at the weekly teenage gatherings at our Westside of Long Beach house. My brother’s friends usually showed up to talk, come up with some great bantering subjects and look at each other’s cars for new ideas, etc. 34 Ford Coupe When I had enough drag racing films developed and ready to show, they all piled into our living room to watch the 16mm color films showing what we saw at the drags the week before. (No, the blue 34 Ford Coupe was not a compe***or in any cl***. It was not a street legal cl*** build... motorcycle fender, etc.) There was a possibility that he could have been moved to an Altered cl*** to run the way the coupe was built... Despite the fact that it was a legal street driven coupe, the gas coupe cl*** required full fenders. Jnaki The opening shot of the entrance to the pit side of the huge parking lot had the weigh-in scales, the tech inspection platform area and this cool coupe sitting in its own place. It may not have been entered in any cl*** as it was far away from the entrance to the line up lanes. A panorama view from the actual pits area at Lion's Dragstrip circa 1959, facing the orange timing tower. "Cl*** Lanes..." blue cars galore...
My old '34 and yes that is an enamel bed pan I used as an air cleaner top ,it fit over a 6 " filter and base perfect lol
'59 Elky I built for my grandson and Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild entry I built in '63 @ 12 yrs old. Guild car didn't win anything.
Thanx. Was a fun build. We put in a 307 with 235 heads, 200R4 ******, car came with a posi rear end. Late model Caddy power slit bench. Really like the tigerwood bed we installed. Put the spare under the rear deck where it belonged using a Dodge Dakota winch. One neat trick was installing a Lincoln Mark 8 two speed electric fan. Those things are monsters and fit the Elky fam shroud perfectly.
