Technical Blueflame 6 Rocker Cover

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Robert J. Palmer, Feb 2, 2015.

  1. Does anyone have any info on this 216,235,261 Chev. rocker cover?
Simplex has no record of making a Blueflame Chevrolet rocker cover.
Please note the beathers are not mounted only sitting on it.
    Thank- You

I've never seen one of those but I like it. I hope you find the info you're looking for.

  3. What if it was made for something else and just also happens to fit a blue flame?

I bet it's a prototype sample. Only off chance it wasn't done by simplex is if it was done in a High School metal shop.

    Look closely at the first black and white picture (and using a straight edge) and it reveals the layout is quite crude;
The P is set too low
The A is leaning to the left
The two dashes are angled down to the right
The outline points at either end are not symetrical. The right side is pointed while the left is rounded.

  6. That's for a marine application, I'd guess.

  7. Kiwijeff may be right.I have posted the pic on a HAMB type board for marine engine enthusiasts, so far nobody knows, but suggested some leads. I'll see what we get and let you know!

  8. I took all 4 photos the 3rd & 4th were taken by a camera with a scratched lens

  9. Well Robert, I have come up with....nothing!
I heard from a guy who has an extensive collection of auto/marine stuff, he's drawing a blank. He actually collects Chevy 6's from '29 on up.
Nobody has ever seen one and these are guys that are pretty serious auto/marine collectors and historians. But, their interest is piqued and are as curious as you are!
I won't give up as I absolutely HATE not being able to solve mysteries and love doing research.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Some mysteries are best left unsolved.

So there you go, if Simplex produced a intake for the inline Chevys then they obviously produced or prototyped the valve cover. Mystery solved.

  13. Seems there have been umpteen companies over the years called Simplex.
I'm thinking it might have been made by a company called Simplex, but labeled Simplex Marine. Like say, Chrysler Marine. Then again. it could be Fred Simplex in his garage. I like history and research, stll digging!

  14. Thanks for your help called Simplex again.
This time they said they had been asked by others about Simplex Marine Rocker covers, but had no more info.

  15. Thanks I will call him!

Thanks for showing these rare rare pieces, I never knew they existed. As for "Simplex", I'm not surprised they know nothing of these pieces, as I called B&M a few years ago and they knew nothing about "B&M hydros of The g***er days. Some of the knowledge from the yesteryears is becoming lost. Here's to those who have do***ented and archived the old stuff.
Best Regards and good luck with all your endeavors, KB.

I womder if they've heard the expression, "That's a Doozie!"

  19. It wouldn't be so weird if Simplex Marine never heard of it, what's weird is NOBODY else has ever heard about it.I've asked knowledgeable marine stuff collectors, no dice, nobody here has heard of them.
Stuff has to be pretty darn obscure in the age of the internet to vanish with nary a trace.

As you may know, CAW made a non-finned aluminum cover for truck use, to reduce valve noise.

Sooo...I notice the Sharp intake, as well. What's in the cards for these great pieces?

  26. They along with a Corvette Exhaust manifold and a Cyclone Blueflame 6 to early Ford transmission adapter are going in my East Coast style Model A truck project.

RJ, I would love to see some details of your project - I too am fitting a Cyclone bellhousing behind my Stovebolt six, but will run a Packard trans behind it.
