My hats off to you sir, and you can and should be the “O-Fishal” Roadster Show and swap meet photographer. I’m guessing we must have been standing side by side a couple of times cuz we were lookin at the same stuff from the same angle. Great pics, thanks for posting.

I may be revealing my ignorance here, but I didn't know anything about Kellison until I started searching for information about this car. What a cool story, I can't believe I haven't heard about them before this. This looks like a Kellison J6 to me. Even if it is one of the later models made, that still would put it within the HAMB era, as they stopped production of these cars in 1964. I wish now that I had taken more photos of it, I don't know if I'll run across another one someday.

It does kind of look like that, but I believe the Kellison predates both of those cars. It's basically a kit car, designed to be mounted on a Corvette chassis from the C1 through the C3, depending on the model. I think the first Kellison's were produced in 1957.

  7. There's been a few posts/builds on here or at least a find. I saw that car and looked at it for awhile, I haven't seen one in person before.

  8. I built one of these in the 60's with my friend Bruce on a early Corvette chassis (which is the same as a 49 to 54 Chevy car frame) it was a beautiful car. We traded it, straight across, for a 57 Chevy Nomad wagon after a couple years. The hood on the blue car is not how they came, the original hoods had a small streamlined scoop over the carburator.

Around 1957 I used to go with my brother to old town Folsom Ca. and watch as
Kellisons were being built using chopper gun fiberglass. I was around 10 or 12 years old at the time and I've loved the smell of fiberglass ever since.

In the 70's I worked a summer job at a local manufacturer of fiberglass motorcycle fairings and saddle bags. They were done using the chopper gun process, My job was to roll out the glass and remove all air bubbles after it was sprayed in by the chopper gun. It was hot, dirty, smelly, work; the entry level position, bottom of the totem pole.

    Hello,

Nice photos of the event. Your photos are pretty cool and have the extra look to make one want to delve into the details. The yellow 35-36 Ford RPU is unusual. The nice front end of the 35-36 Ford just gave the design something more for a roadster pickup.

We had never seen one before locally, but the Australians called their version "UTEs." A little different, but still in the same basic design. The pickup bed was taller or deeper.

Last year, I was doing some artwork based on a photo I took of a nice looking 35-36 Ford coupe. Nothing fancy, just a good looking daily driver coupe.

I drew an RPU pickup bed and worked backward from there. Being that my brother and I were large/tall teenagers that normally did not fit in any stock RPU builds, I made a custom version of an extended cab and short bed. The extended cab would have had enough room for us to be comfortable if we had continued on with our neighborhood speed shop business. But, the long bed would have been shortened to keep the proportions within reason.

Of course, being a So Cal resident for all of these years, it would have been a lowered rake version, too.

1936 Roadster pickup top folds like roadster too in CA.jpg
I checked my files and here's a picture of the same vehicle with the hood off. Compare that to the following picture of my pickup with the hood opened.
    20220107 brakes 1.jpg
My pickup was built using a 1940 Ford cab. I believe all 1936 Fords came with a flat, one piece windshield. The yellow RPU has a two piece windshield but without the usual divider down the middle.
A picture of the dashboard might give further clues. My rear fenders are from a 40 pickup but I think his came from the larger pickup as they seem a bit wider than mine... the outer edge of my running board pretty much lines up with the outer edge of my rear fender. The bigger truck fenders came in a bit to meet the running board.
Hope this helps. Definitely a neat vehicle.

I wasn't able to attend this years Fathers Day show, and last year I was hoping to meet you but I was unable to find you. I went to where you were parked many times but never was able to locate you.
You seem to be constantly on the move taking your great pictures.
This morning I decided to try to find your pic in order to put a face on BLUES 4U.
I scrolled through 84 pages of H.A.M.B.er mug shots before I found your picture. Maybe one day we'll
actually meet now that I might able to recognize you and not just your car.
Thanks again for your show coverage.

It's true, I don't hang around my own car very much. I have friends that when the go to a show they pretty much stick around their car the whole time. They set their chairs up and hang out and make friends with others doing the same thing. I'm usually on the move, checking out cars, taking photos. So much to see at the LARS.

I couldn't help but think about @-Brent- 's Model A, think you'll appreciate them Brent. These cars were so popular I couldn't get any shots without people hanging around, so if either of these cars are yours send me a pm, I'd love to do a photo shoot with it somewhere. And I'll wrap up things here with my last photos of this event. It was late Saturday afternoon and I was dog tired and thirsty. We kicked back in some shade for a little with a cold beer before heading home. Next year we'll do it all again!
