Guys - I'm collecting speed parts for my distant future rod build, I have a 303 olds rocket and have gathered a Nicson intake and a pair of Carter WCFB's, my question is I've heard Nicson did mainly boat performance parts and I was going to start a small project to build my own surfer style air scoop and noticed the carbs are at a slight angle forward and the top of the carbs do not fall in the same plan. Is this ok to use on a street car or should I make small angled adapters to level them out? Curious minds need to know? Thanks Rick Wisconsin
A friend tried a marine intake on his 326 pontiac back in the 70's and he burned about a quater tank of gas in a few miles with it. He surmised that it tipped the carb on such an angle that the float level went too high. He switched right back to his stocker.
There are adaptor plates made to use street carbs on street manifolds that are beveled - you should be able to reverse them. dj
the ADAPTORS are beveled, not the manifold. I just see that I could have worded my response a bit better and less confusing. The wedges are made so the carbs will be level in a marine engine application.
Define "slight angle" because there should be some, because the motor will be angled a bit. Also compare intake port sizes, because 303 is much smaller than 324...or does the intake markings say it is for 303 49-53?
