Seriously? Bob was one of my favorite people, had a great sense of humor. Damn, that's terrible news. Mick
Sorry to hear this...my condolences to his family and friends. Whenever I have heard of his involvement with a car, I knew I needed to see it. A great talent lost with an eye for the "right stuff" . God speed, sir.
Here's Bauder's last interview with Hot Rod Magazine, which was shot about 4 weeks ago at his shop in Crestline, CA. Another monumental loss... I'm grateful for every moment I spent with Bob over the past 35 years, he was a great man in every sense of the word. http://www.hotrod.com/articles/1932-ford-pickup-hot-rod/
This is a Podcast from a couple years back with Pete Chapouris interviewing Bauder. We lost both of these icons this year... https://www.ernlive.com/show/street-rod-custom-radio/135/episodes/bob-bauder-full-show-66/page-10
Hello, Ok, this is getting old fast… too many people dying. Recently, I heard the old Marvin Gaye’s song on Ken Burn’s Vietnam series. But, the words…well, they are timeless and very poignant. Brother, brother, brother, There’s far too many of you dying, You know we’ve got to find a way, To bring some loving here today…Ya I met Bob back in the early 1972-73 at a car show. He gave me some cool ideas about a 40 Ford Sedan. I applied them to the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery we owned at the time. I went over to his Mission Viejo house to do some photo work for him and for several background technical stories on hot rods. I was not much into the “tech” part, but Bob certainly had plenty of ideas, methods, and stuff to fill out plenty of stories. Jnaki We lost touch with each other over the years. It was with tremendous sadness that I read about his loss this morning. Condolences to his family… What a cool looking sedan!
This is really sad news for me. I am truly fortunate to have known him(we are the same age). The two factory Dodge Hemi lightweights he restored for me are examples of his talent. He was truly a great guy to deal with and did what he said he would at the price he quoted. My condolences to his family.
What a loss, what a talent. His 32 sedan started my fire to build 2 chopped 32 sedans although they were not as cool as his. He had the eye.
I always loved talking to Bob and listening to his stories. Fun guy to be around. A true hot rodder’s hot rodder!!! Nothing like being on the road with him in hot rods!!! Only the best could keep up!!!! RIP my friend.... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Bob's passing is a sad day for the Hot Rod community. He was a long time notable builder in the LA scene. The Mountain Man was a humble and talented person who worked for the best and finally for himself. My condolences to the family.
Sadly, the guys who created the bridge from the '60's to the '70's for hot rods are falling by the wayside way too soon. RIP Bob
Well dang, Anytime you saw mention of one of his builds you knew you were in for a treat. I still have that issue of Street Rodder stashed away and probably wore those pages out back then studying that sedan. May he rest in peace.
I met Bob on the internet. Bought a couple of the cutaway flathead posters. Wound up selling a bunch for him, every time we spoke on the phone to give him a report of sales, it would turn into better than hour talking abomy cars and his projects. I only heard of his passing at Hershey this year.(2023).. I will miss his stories and I truly offer my condolences to his family .. God speed Bob, Dale Thorpe
