Hey, on a factory tour of the Harley-Davidsob plany in York , Pa. I noted some cardboard boxes on the floor. I couldn't tell what was in them , but on the box was " Made in China" . I remember commenting to a buddy that H-D would be smart to get thoise out of sight.
When I was building my 48 Ford coupe I vowed not to have anything in or on it that wasn't US made....just about impossible. Once I called VIP Auto about a set of Granada disc brake rotors. I asked where they were made. The guy checked and said they were made in the USA. I bought them and when I got them home, upon opening the Bendix box that said made in USA , inside was another box with the rotor inside....this box said Made in China

It costs 10 times more to buy a new car today than it did 30 years ago but the parts that keep them going costs less than 30 years ago. It ain't all bad. Almost any part can be bought American made if you choose to buy American only. It will just cost more. I buy both. I like the choice.

    For whatever it is worth...

#1) the corporate guys are only trying to make a profit for their stockholders.Just business.

Along with lower wages, the almost nonexistant imposition of safety and environmental standards lowers the costs to the point that most American businesses can afford NOT to manufacture offshore.

#2) We couldn't afford to pay the price of stuff made in America because of the wages.

What it really means that we are unwilling to lower our standard of living. In the meantime ,there are folks livng many thousands of miles away from here who lived no differenty for CENTURIES.Now their standard of living is being raised.

    Anyone have any constructive ideas?

It starts and ends with us. I'm a Viet Nam vet who lost a wing there and I'm fed up with companeys like Wal Mar, Drakes, Jegs (branded parts). There are parts made in the USA we have to get off our lazy ***es and look them up. Bill Miller Engineering for example, look it up "made in USA"
I can't stand it any more the way that the s***bags from corprate america are creating a atmosphere of low cl***, people that can't afford to live so must shop at Wal-Mart further perpetuating the cycle of misery.

    God Bless America, Buy American.

I work at a Chem Plant close to the Port in Houston, I see tankers come in everyday packed to the gills from China...and they all go back EMPTY...makes me sick.

  19. I say we boycott Chinese goods starting right now. So turn off your computer and smash it on the floor. No justice no peace!

  21. I. went to a local Home Depot the other day to buy an American made 4 1/2 grinder. I couldn't do it because they didn't offer one. Of the 5 or 6 brands offered, each one was made in China
. It turned my stomach. I settled for a harbour freight one which will last a month then ill go get another one. Oh well what's a US citizen to do

Same old-it's not China's fault. They have good factories and could build any quality we would want and would pay for. What we as Americans asked for was cheap-that's what we got. There just aren't enough customers who will pay a good price for good quality. As Pogo said " We have met the enemy and he is us".

The HAMB would be about 33% fewer posts if "China" was a banned word. 50% shorter is we added "gasolene" to the list.

Its not the corporations fault. Its Federal Rules, Regulations and Restrictions that force American companies to go overseas and YOU are the Voters who elect your Government

Only YOU choose to buy something made in China. I like having the choice. If we didn't buy anything that was imported I doubt if anything would get exported and a lot of folks would be out of work again.
