  2. Absolutely Herculean effort!

For the Vision,Commitment and Tenacity to bring this to market so that mere mortals like us can simply write a cheque and bring one home.

Most will never know or have any idea what is involved to bring a "dream" like this to reality.

    Thank You Bob!

A side note to Bob and his business. A friend and I stopped there last year on the way to Seattle. Bob's son spent an hour with us showing us around, he was very proud of his father and the facilities. A classy outfit and well worth our business.

A thousand thanks, Bob. People like yourself and your company are what makes it a pleasure to be involved in this hobby. These turds that think a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of tooling are all it takes: "whyntcha just do..." "how come ya don't make..." are completely clueless on what is actually involved in engineering the stampings to be accurate - and consistent from side-to-side. Just forming and machining the dies for the stamping equipment is a prodigious costly task.

I thank you for making an iconic hot rod candidate available to the masses (albeit the 'moneyed' masses to be sure). The whiners will complain no matter what happens. Had you not done this, they'd be asking why somebody doesn't make a 40 Ford coupe body - totally bereft of any comprehension of what's involved in the reproduction of these, and how long it will take you to recover your costs through sales.

Thanks again for your efforts, and congratulations on a fine result.

ps: I agree that perhaps Ryan can give you an honorary NON-FNG status of some kind.

Class work, for sure! Yes, there are still '40 Ford coupes out there, but with each year the rust grows, and more are rotted beyond repair. Sure, we all would love an original, but the reality is that in a few years there will be almost none left worth fixing up.....So these reproductions are not old iron, but they are the best damn substitute and all of us who love the '40 Ford coupe should be grateful that, even for a high price, they will be around for much longer than if Bob Drake had not recreated them.

Nope....Bob is a nice guy, but he's no different than the rest of us....if he posts more, it will be removed. By the way, the '40 display @ LARS was fantastic.

Any chance you can make a 'you tube like' video of the stamping & assembly process? I would watch it.

I'd like to know what's going on with the F1 in the back ground. Steel fenders, perhaps?

Very good point which I hadn't even thought about....as all '40 Ford passenger cars use the same chassis. I know where a solid '40 deluxe fordor is for sale, not advertised, with beautiful fenders and hood, and already has a nice running 59AB. Perfect starting point. I'm on it! (Anyone need a nice fordor body?, But wait,.....it might make a nice matching camp trailer.....?)

Bob Drake is always smiling... Hey Bob, I'd like to smile too. Think you will ever make fenders for 38 9 trucks? :)

I was given my first Drake catalog when I was about 14, along about 1980 and started buying parts pretty quickly thereafter. Thirty years later I am still buying parts for the same 39. When I finish up this incarnation of the coupe, I would really like to build one of those new steel bodies.

That said, I want to thank Mr. Drake for offering the best reproduction parts available for my projects.

I have been watching that coupe come along for some time, and I think it is truly awesome!

Just as good as having a time machine! AWESOME!

  19. So.............does that make my real 40 coupe worth more money?? Just sayin'.;):D

Some of my first Drake purchases (about 30 years ago it seems) were the gas cap and the Ford script peep mirrors. Still on the car, working perfectly! Also been running his grill and running board covers for many years. Just recently put in one of his window felt kits. Top notch stuff.

I have been doing business with Bob for the last 35+ years and I have never been disappointed. If you have an opportunity to see this project in person, you will be amazed at the quality and craftsmanship that goes into this body.
