bobbing rear fenders

  1. hey guys,

    i really like the look of bobbed rear fenders on roadsters. anyone have some pics of 28-29 roadsters with this treatment, of can tell me a bit more about the process.

    DRD57 has done several, maybe he has some progress shots on his web site.
     
  5. If you're just bobbing them and not welding the cut off rear lower section back on - like on DRD57's neato coupe - use a 1/16" thick abrasive cutoff wheel in a die grinder or muffler cutter or on an arbor in a 3/8" drill to cut the sheet metal.

    It works well to make the first cut straight across - unless you're dealing with a curve as shown in the pic.
    If you're doing that you'll need a template so both sides match.

    If you're making a straight cut on the bottoms, make a small template for the rounded corners.
    The fender shown in the pic gets a little more curve to it on the outer front and rear corner.

    You can't cut the small diameter corner curves with the wheeled cutter, but you can make a series of straight lines and blend them with a Pearl Wheel to make a smooth curve. (Pearl Wheel is also called a flap wheel.)
