A lot of guys dont realize how big BC is. Ft. Nelson is 900+ miles from Greater Vancouver.

I had the privilege of repairing the only elevator in Fort Nelson.
It is still quite a distance down to Ft. St. John.

Well Folk, here is the story right from the horses ass, I mean keyboard.

About 0615 this am 27k south of Fort Nelson we heard this horrendous noise from the right front of the ol chebby. I pulled over to the shoulder and said to Maggie, "SHIT, IT'S A WHEEL BEARING". Yep, the wheel was cocked in at the top and laying on the rim was 1/2 half of a roller bearing.

At 0615 there ain't a hell of a lot of traffic on the southbound Alaska highway and what there was didn't stop to offer assistance. Of course there was no cell phone service where we stopped so I had to walk about a quarter of a mile to the top of a little rise. I called T-Man and then AAA, the hooked me up with the locals and in about 1 1/2 hours a real nice guy by the name of Rob shows up with a rollback. Him being a gearhead helped a lot and soon the beast was loaded.

I can't believe that the onliest picture I took of him has his ass in the air, not his best side to be sure.

You can clearly see that the wheel is cocked in at the top. I hope that the only damage is to the bearing.

On the way back to town I asked him where we were going to take it. He says there is a guy north of town whose name is Al. He has a bunch of Old cars and a new Challanger and is a gearhead. He will take good care of you.

She looks so sad back there, that's ok ol girl, we will get you back on the road soon.

Al's place is just like an old school shop and he turns out to be a stand up guy, his helper Dan is from Thunder Bay Ontario. He and his buddy's just bought that 52 Caddy Flower car that Skip had. They had me park the car outside and they will at least get apart today. I brought extra bearings with me and they have those, if no other parts are needed we should be on our way again soon.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, and yes we will visit the museum this afternoon and say Hi to Marl. Everyone around here speaks very highly of him.

Brian, I will tell him that you work with his son.

I will update this post when we know more. But now I have some time to post more pictures on the Trip thread.

    Thanks again.

You're right, I don't know any Canadian rodder who wouldn't do all they could to help anyone, Canadian or our great southern friends.
Most of us spend a lot of time in the U.S. and have made many friends over the years.
To me Canadians and Americans are mostly after the same things in life, it's just the politics of each country that differ.
Hope Bob's repairs go quickly and he's safe to go again. :D

Nope, current plan is to take the queens highway through
Canada and then from Winnepeg down thrugh the cities.

  18. So's that highway #1 or #16? Either way, you'll come within a half-hour of me.

  21. I should have called you when they came through but the timing was off. I didn't think Bob was going to make it back from Devils Tower in time for supper!:p I think he pushed the speed a tad.
