Spent most after school hours at BOB's in Pasadena and most weekends...drive through would go around the block, when we finally got in we usually only had enough money to get a coke and fries, you had to order something or move on....drag races usually started there and moved somewhere else to finish....guys would display there cars in the parking lot to foster competition.....there were always fights too....man oh man...where did that time go? They just opened another new one in the old Chevys out in West Covina........Bob's Big Boy no relish....add tomato and onions, fries well done and a chocolate shake....Flash Back!........sorry
And how many remember the Orange Drink they had? It wasn't carbonated and it wasn't Orange Juice. Man I loved that stuff, sad day when they discontinued it.
They have tons of Bob's Big Boy's in Japan. The restaurant is different, not a hamburger joint, but the statues are the same. Of course they are shorter Some kids (baseball team) made the news years ago by stealing one of the statues. Just a month or so ago they were clearing some land for a highway project and found the statue in the river! Some things are the same the world over. EDIT: Correction, I just remembered it was a Colonel Sanders statue not a Bob's Big Boy.
All this talk about Bob's and i got hungry, so me and my son jumped into the truck and ran the 20 miles to our Big Boy's and had a few burgers, yummy, Now I good for the night. Oh had a choc. shake to.
Did they close up all the chevy's out there and help me out here been awhile since I was out there but coming out of L.A. on I-10 heading east there was on the right side (south side ) of hyway and burger joint was that a chevy's can't recall but I want to say it was ontario or pomona or somewhere along there it was all lit up with neon's
I remember the year before I graduated at North Hollywood High School 1984. that Senior Year stole the Bob's from Toluca lake and cemented it in the Quad at North Hollywood High for a High School senior prank....Bob's got it back. But , I think that's why they bring Bob in every night now....He he he...

Here's some pics of my Big Boy statue in the corner of my garage, The Hot Rod Grille. It's a four-foot version that stood in the lobby of a Shoney's restaurant. I've also got 18 different Big Boy figurine banks as seen in the picture and an original Shoney's tray, menu, order pad and coin changer. Jim
