Im frame off restoring a truck, how is the best way to built a body cart to move the cab while it is off the frame. Steel thickness, caster type. Or would I be able to make one from wood beams seeing as how light the cab is. If you have any examples please show.

  2. Look at my photobucket page. I used 4x4s to support the entire body on my sedan. Worked great. Todd

head over to the Home Depot, grab some cheap casters, 2x4's, some screws, and whip yourself up a little cart :D

Most truck cabs don't weigh all that much so you don't really have to over build.

I took a section of straight but junk truck frame to use to set my cab up on. some 8 inch dia wheels on one end and casters on the other with a channel crossmember front and back to keep it square. I can put it up on stands if I want to work on the lower part of the cab or set it on the wheels if I want to work on the top. I'm remodeling it now to put a screw jack off an old scaffold on each corner to be able to level it to make doing the modifications to the cab easier.

I QUICKLY made some saw horse like stands with casters on the corners.

8 casters, a box of lag bolts a few 2 x 4s, and about an hour is all it really takes.

cheap, fast, easy, and easy to reconfigure when you need to do something a little different.
