I've got some ripples on my brass radiator header tank. Would it be ok to put a skim coat of body filler to smooth it out?

Very bad idea. Filler would not handle the expanding/ contracting that the radiator does.

I do believe the filler would lift after getting that hot.

Eastwood sells a product called "Lab Metal". Check that out.

JB weld works good as a filler on rad tanks. Been on mine for over 20 yrs and has not poped loose or cracked yet. Sand fairly easy as well.

    Hey,

Unsolder the top tank, straighten & re solder or have a pro do it. 'sounds like a good time to rod out the radiator,as well.

You could also try to silcone seal some pull tabs to the low areas, glue tabs in place, pull with Vice grips whyle tapping high areas of tank. When you've straightened it as best as you can, remove tabs with razor blade,
    polish out repair.

Plastic filler is a bad bet in the center of a hood panel to say nothing of a radiator tank!

Forget about "lab metal", unless you're doing a very, very small area...

You could make a cover for it out of steel or aluminum, but I wouldn't go the body filler route.

  13. "Metal to Metal" or "all metal" filler will work also. We use it sometimes for filling when we powdercoat and will handle the high temps.

Thanks for the tips. I'm giving the JB Weld a shot. Looks like it will be perfect as long as it continues to hold.
