It's been a good long time since I've dove into the dusty world of body filler, so I thought I'd ask before I start skimming the patch panels on the coupe. Years ago I exclusively used DynaLite and really liked it compared to other brands. This is around the time that all the Rage products first came out and I have to admit... I thought the Rage stuff was pretty lame in comparison. The only reason I mention this is it seems a lot of people on here seem to really like it. Anyways, if you guys could shed some light on the body fillers of today I'd really appreciate it. Things probably haven't changed all that much... speaking of which, does Evercoat still make the best finishing putties, etc. Thanks much, ns
I relied on Evercoat's Lightweight and Z-Grip for a long time. I tried Rage Gold for the first time and loved it. I haven't tried Rage Xtreme, but I don't doubt these guys are like me.
Evercoat has a new line of fillers and putties coming out called Quantum. They are a brand new technology. Hybrid polyester epoxy with a 10:1 mix ratio rather than 50:1 of traditional fillers and putties. They sand much better and will not shrink due to the epoxy. There will also be two different catalyst available for different temperatures so you can control the work time without under or over catalizing your product. They should be very cool.
They should be coming out right away. They were introduced at NACE and SEMA. I know they did a bit of a test release in Florida this month so it should be soon.
I'd like to know when these will come out also, I am working on an airplane at the moment and the airplane industry recommends an epoxy based filler that i am using but it sands like a rock but sticks to anything even non-prepared surfaces and it extremely hard.
I would say check with your local Evercoat distributor they can check with the local rep to find out an date for you.
I used Rage Gold on my Caddy. This stuff is great. I also used some old shcool filler LEAD, I had fun playing with that.
I like Evercoats cheap blue can, its super everweight or something like that. Its like 10 bucks a gal and works really well.
I like the sound of polyester filler/putty... I used to spray polyester basecoats quite a bit (DuPont and R&M) and shrinkage was never a problem... polyester good... just get a good respirator... fresh-air setup even better. -ns
It is called Evercoat Lightweight. I hate that stuff. Rage extreme costs three or four times as much and it is well worth the money. Dave
