i channeled my car and stepped the frame...now i have an area on the wheel well where its just sheet metal hanging down...what have you guys done to support an area like this..to keep it from flapping around and looking like a poor quality job...im going to have a cut out for the axle and spring but theres still a bit infront and back..my idea is just make a peice of small angle follow this edge and weld that to the body channel i guess that would work but im trying to steer away from using angle iron where you'll be able to see it from above or below the car....i guess i could use rod or something also....any ideas or pictures or anything would be appreciated...thanks zach
I don't know haw far down below the bottom of the frame rail this part is that you are talking about, but it usually looks pretty decent to trim it off flush with the bottom of the frame rail...or even a little above. Just putting an 18ga. doubler plate behind it, wrapping up onto the bottom of the floor of the body, would be enough to keep it from bein' flappy. If you want to get fancy, put a bead along the edge (whether you trim or not). This would look more finished and strengthen at the same time. (This would be a bead or "reveal" similar to the outside edge of a Model A or 32 fender.)
thanks, the car is a model-A "roadster"...and im talking about in the wheel well area...its about 6 inches below the frame so making it flush isn;t an option...i had planned to make the car lower then it is now when i stepped the frame 6 inches...so i have a good bit of room that was originally for suspension travel zach
