Ive done the search but need specific info from someone who has done this on a 216 in a 47 Chevy. Can anyone please tell me exactly which adaptor plate/parts adaptor plate are required to allow a GM T5 to mate up with an earlier 47 Chevy 216 bellhousing? There seems to be some confusion as to which plate will allow it to bolt to an earlier 216. Can anyone clarify what parts are need? Also, can anyone tell me who sells a rebuild kit (synchros/wahsers/seals/bearings etc) for a 47 Chevy 3 speed trans? Thanx Rat
Will a 55 to 62 235 bellhousing bolt up to a 216 ? I'm almost sure a T5 will bolt up to one of those bellhousings. At least the T5 I had looked like it would.
The T-5 will bolt up to a 55 and up car and 48 and up truck bellhousing,Buffalo enterprises makes a adapter for the earlier bellhousings.
The link that Blake posted is fine if you want to go the adapter plate route. If you don't mind modifying the transmission input shaft and bearing retainer as described a million times here, then a '55-62 235 car or a '48-59 235 truck bellhousing can be used as it has the same bolt pattern as the T5. If you want to keep the foot starter, then use a '48-57 truck housing. You could also avoid the input shaft mods by using a spacer plate from Hamilton along with the later bellhousing.
