I bought this cherry coupe without seeing it live in person. I knew there was a risk..... Looks pretty good for something I drug home, right? Unfortunately...Here is the rocker panel. There is absolutely no metal in there at all. Both rockers were made from Bondo, chicken wire and fibergl***. Both quarter panels were a little suspect also.. Here is the 1/4 cut out. There are two or three layers of roof flashing, fibergl***, pop-rivets and screen door. Both sides of the lower cowl were full of Bondo, but if you dug reeeeal deep, you could at least find some metal. So, after a few sheets of 18ga she is almost all better. Here is the cowl. Door jambs. Door jambs on teh door. Door bottom. And this is pretty much where she is today. The lower 6-8 inches all the way around is new and the doors fit in the openings with nice gaps. The body is straight and square and ready for floor boards. Thats it till next time. See ya, -Abone.
Looks good. Nice work bringing another back from the dead . One of the thing's that always crosses my mind when i see something like this, or even come across it myself like with the truck i'm building, is how we are actually lucky we can fix problems like that. I feel for the guy's who buy something with "hidden" presents like what you had, and can't. It's get's REAL expensive in a hurry and generally takes the fun right out of it. Anyway, looking forward to seeing it come together! Tony
That was a bit ****tier than you expected then to say the least!... lucky you got the skills to get it back on track, good work so far! it's scares me a little as this week sometime i'm picking my 40 Chevy up from the docks that i bought from photos so i haven't seen it in the flesh yet... hope it's not full of chicken wire and bondo also!
Nice work fixing all that ****. Stuff like takes ya wonder what the hell some people are thinking sometimes.
Glad to see you were able to fix it correctly. That is my favorite ford body style and I hate seeing them disrespected like that good save. With that being said the drip rails being cut off was a sign of rust. good luck look forward to more progress pics.
Nice come-back, to bad it looked better than it was and ya paid for what ya seen. Those bodies are pretty sought after so at least you got one and it's solid now.
Man first the merc now this. I will be following this one just like the merc. Keep the updates coming.
Bondo, fibergl***, and screen door... sounds familiar. I think I know that bodyman, he built the "kustom" grill shell on my shoebox that now resides outside with the rest of the front clip. Haha. Never a good feeling when you touch a stripping wheel to a panel and fall through it. This one gonna be black too??
So, how many miles have you got on this jewel? From your past builds you must have had it on the road for awhile, right? Seriously, keep the updates coming. You do amazing things with less than anyone I know. Frank
How did you know????? Thanks for the kind words, guys. That kind of metalwork is actually pretty fun, but had I known EMS made all those panels, I probably would have bought em. The door jambs are tricky when there is no metal to guide you. You know if you **** it up cause the doors open like a DeLorean. She will be ready for HAMB Drags '10. -Abone.
looks good! gives me hope for what crusty, rusty **** you can actually start a project with haha. looks fun!
Time for some progress pics so we can see what's going to the H.A.M.B. drags........ still hoping the wife can get off of work so we can get there.
I dug a '26 Dodge 4 dr out of a feed lot that had chiken wire in it, but it was to keep the chickens in. Had a concrete floor as well. Was used for a chicken coop for years. Damn nice resurection. Most would have figure it for dead. Lookin' forward to seeing you again in August.
keep us updated with pics, I may be getting a 39 soon, my great uncle has one just sittin rotten in his barn...he lives in N.D. man I want to road trip it and bring it out west...good fab work!
