I am on the committee to plan events to celebrate Hawkeye Downs Speedway's (Cedar Rapids Iowa) 100th year anniversary. One of the events we are having is vintage dirt drags and car show -The Boneshaker Shutdown. Entry criteria is still being ironed out but it will be similar to TROG and Jalopy Jaunt. Hawkeye Downs is an asphalt race track but they are bringing in dirt to cover the track for dirt racing events in September and October. Stay tuned - more info to come.
Love it !!......Bring in the DIRT just like 1964-1972 when we had all the fun on the 1/4mi and the 1/2mi
I will be meeting with Hawkeye Downs management soon and I will ask them about camping on the property.
Hey Guys, we support you in your dirt drags event. We will be having our third year with two days of racing over the Labor Day weekend and I have to say your racers will thank you over and over. We suggest you keep it without awards, time slips, and drama. Have fun!
This looks to be a great time. Has the criteria been figured out? Will this be for pre-WWII cars, etc. with only flatheads and early overheads?
@Torkwrench The race criteria has finally been nailed down. Car bodies must be 1937 or older, American made only. Some body styles up to 1953 can be entered, if made to look like a traditional race car and the driveline is 100% traditional- No overhead valve V8s allowed. Engines, Transmissions and Rearends must be older than 1953. Fuel: Gas only, NO ALCOHOL OR NITRO! Engine: must be 1953 or older Flathead or Banger, 1953 or older Straight Six upon special approval. Wheels & Tires: No aggressive, knobby or paddle tires. Paint: Period paint that emulates the early days of racing. No late model graphics, No vinyl stickers or emblems, etc. Cars can be shiny, primed or have old paint. 3 number maximum. If two cars have the same number, you will be required to add a letter with Shoe Polish or masking tape to distinguish yourself.
