Any one with advice on lodging for the first few days of speed week? The motel reviews i have been able to get don't sound to good. All i require is a safe and clean place prefere close to the flats. posibly Wendover.

Art, Start calling in late March/early April If you want to stay in Wendover. West Wendover is in Nevada, big Hotel/Casinos there. Wendover is in Utah, small mom and pop motels there. It's all one town that stradles the state line.

There should be something at the rainbow in West Wendover and the koa should have camping spots too.

  5. Rainbow says no rooms available for the first 3 days.

I would go for the campground, I stay there just because I can't afford to go the whole week at the 100.00 plus a night motels/hotels. Any other week of the year they are about 40 bucks a night. Although the motels do have a/c. Buy one of those cheap tents that will fit in a suitcase, keep your valuables in the rental car, and if the tent won't fit back into the bag [mine didn't], give it away to someone at the camp area. Wendover is the only place to stay, everything else is way to far to drive. You flying out or driving? Get airline tickets early [before april if possible],, the longer you wait the more they cost. Found that out the first year I went, was shopping around for ticket prices, waited one day and all the prices almost doubled. Hope this helps. See you on the Salt.

i heard they booked 1300 rooms in one day, last week. i got mine thankfully. i think its too late now. my neighbor tried the other day and heard it was all full. casinos, mom and pops, you name it. my first year i called super 8, cuz they were the only ones that told me to keep trying, every day for two months straight. finally caught a cancellation a week before speed week.

    good luck

Me and paintfumesmahgee might go, his dad bought a 58 chevy longroof that we will probabley drive there, sleep in, and have some fun in. when is speedweek this year?

  9. The bigger places didnt start letting go of rooms till the 8th. My brother and I each tried for 2 1/2 hours to get through. When we finally did they were all taken. KOA said they had some tent spaces available. Im not much of a camper anymore. We (6 of us) are considering renting a big ass motor home and just park it at the bend.

Apparently the Chamber of Commerce thought it would be funny if they scheduled 2 golf tournaments that same week as Speedweek.

Thanks for the replies, sounds like i may need to rent a mini van and camp out, that might be more fun than a motel room any way. Mini van looks like a good option.

I've camped out at the bend the last two years on Friday Sat, and Sun. There are showers at the truck stop. It's a fun time! On Mon. and Tue. I get a room it West Wendover $25 a night.

Just got the word - there was a fire last night at the Bonneville Motel. They lost 60 rooms. Probably take longer than 7 months to get them rebuilt, so if you had reservations there better give them a jingle or start making new plans.

Ok guys here's the deal. I have been involved with bonneville for 25 years and the motel-hotel game is the same every year. It seems that we rodders and racers don't spend the money that the gamblers do, maybe it's because we would rather do something more constructive with our money. Anyway the hotel-casino owners will only release a relatively few rooms early even though they told you all to call just after the first of the year. As most of you have found out the little motels sell out quickly because they are cheaper. They(the big casinos) will, as speedweek gets closer open up more blocks of rooms. If you are persistant and call every week or so you will get rooms for speedweek....see ya there, saltracer219

You are correct, many times they will tell you the only room left is a suite, and they are very nice! You cann still get a room, but they are expensive. I'm sure the rainbow will have rooms, not sure about the red garter. you can always call Lucy at the koa and rough it. By the way I hear they have no more camper spaces at the koa but they do have tent camping spots left.

    For BOTH spectators OR drivers.

    Like saltracer219 says;
    Keep trying!

Most "old salts" book their rooms for the next year as they check out.
Often they may have to cancel; so you need to be "in-line."

You can park a RV at the camp ground at the salt flats for free (No hook ups) or in town on the Nevada side at the KKOA Camp grounds.
