Hans - Don't know who is driving at Finals - could be Jim, James or maybe Jon M. Bob likes to take a couple of months off after Speedweek to think out the next year, so I doubt I'll know anything before the end of Oct. He does have a serious collection of vintage small-bore road racers (Aprillas, etc.) and may build a small LSR bike. Who knows? vic

Awesome story mate. Any chance you could go back and insert some paragraph breaks for the other guys who will undoubtedly read every word you wrote like I did as its a great read. Congrats on the red hat. Is your Mrs from Norway?

That was a great read! THanks for taking the time.

  9. I had written this in Word format with indents and paragraphs but when i inserted into here most went away for some reason...I just added a few more for you...Yes, she is from Norway...another funny shorter story...I'm half American, half Norwegian, my dad came to TX to go to University where he met my mom, they move back overseas, I'm born, my dad was unfortunately killed in a car accident when i was just weeks old so my mom, older borher and I move back to Texas....25 years later a norwegian girl comes to Texas to go to University and we meet and end up moving back overseas....history repeats itself.

  10. Thanks Hans. Real Good thread.

Awesome story Hans and fair play to you, enjoy your hats!!! I've got a feeling they won't be your last...

I have to say I'm constantly amazed what the Contrivance crew continue to acheive, there's no stopping you guys, keep it up!!

I'm hopefully returning to the salt next year and your crew is definitely on the list of teams to talk to before I start building my own roadster. The way you guys ignore the typical roadster designs and go for the in air stance and just run stupid speeds is an inspiration, love it!!

Just so everyone can appreciate your the achievements, the records were

    Hans Blom - B/BGMR - 243.842

    I also think Ro Yale needs a mention - AA/GMR - 284.268

  12. Very cool! Congrats!

  13. Thanks Gotzy! Yeah, our cars are a bit contraversal to say the least, but your second sentence says it all, hint, hint.... Don't try to make air do what you want it to...let it do it's thing, it will win every time. PLease come by the pits and you can msg or email me any time. I think there is a good number of people out there that think the '23 has hidden nitrous or other black magic...yeah, we make good HP, but it's car that makes it fast. We were very dissappointed in the AA motor HP. We added 70ci to our A motor and after dyno tuning the **** out of it only gained 50hp....;(

  14. "Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines."

This sounds like a Enzo Ferrari quote.....he never raced at Bonneville,,,;)

  15. Sounds more like a comment from racers who know how to set records! Tons of horsepower can't push a brick fast enough to win a Red Hat.

  17. It is from Enzo, but this is what we race a Bonneville. ;)

  20. Excellent, I've seen your truck, nice....and yes, you MUSTbe a damn good engine builder when using your aero platform!!!

  21. danny from the Blowfish guys right? I ran into them at teh gas station when heading to impound one morning. Great guys.

  22. Yes. Danny has a great job. Drives all over the country hauling cars. This year his boss asked him to drive the Blowfish because he was driving the other car.

Danny is an ordinary guy who got a one in a lifetime opportunity.

My Dad was from Oslo. A sailor, he met my Mom in Los Angeles before the war. I was able to visit my relations in Norway in 1962 when I was in the Army and stationed in Germany. They are all gone now.

Very cool read. Thanx, As 40Ford Tudor said, my Omaha home boys, The S.O.B.'s were so close to the magic 200 at around 192, next year should be the year for them to rock the Studebaker past the magic mark. Again thanx for your hip saga. ~Sololobo~

  24. Blake, we'll have to sit down with some whiskey and I can tell the story again...it get's REAL good after a few drinks...;)....one reason for writing it down so I can't start making **** up down the road....;)...but honestly I let out tons of details. I'm going to go back and make an even more detailed account just for myself to have. NO, I don't love myself that much, but my memory ****s.

  25. Really well written story that gives a person a hint at how hard it is to set those records.

Thanks for letting us share your very uplifting experience.

Hans, thanks for the really neat story, great engineering to be able to do it in such a short period of time. My friends from Ct.are still working hard on their hats. And who would ever think you'd have to tie your sungl***es down?

  27. Great story, thanks for sharing. I have to return to the salt next year.
