I was a red head in a previous life....so I burn very easy. But yes there were people with no shoes, no hats, no shirts, It was my first time there and I can't even explain the brightness. Plus the sun bounces off the salt and gets you from the bottom. But some people can take it better than others. I feel sorry for the poor dogs that people drag along. Anyway....Sunblock with SPF 70 will get the job done. I'll be back again, soon. Gary
Got there Friday @ noon & left Tuesday AM. Thats all the sun I could handle. More cars & people then Ive ever seen since my first time there in 84. getting hard to get around with my back, dont know if Ill be back or not. That place is magic but its also about 3 feet from the sun and after 2 pm it gets wicked hot
We got lucky to have salt this year, but it wasn't in great condition. They had to make 3 new long coursed in 4 days. Thanks to all of the SCTA officials for working hard. JC
Thanks for sharing, that is one of the best batches of photos of real race cars out on the salt in a thread that I have seen in a long time. I think I saw the gull wing run in 1998 when I was there. The car is a true salt veteran.
A fellow HAMBER and friend sent this shot to me, taken by Hot Rod Magazine. It's Jim Lindsay's Blown Flathead powered Roadster, with yours truly, (the builder) rolling it along in the staging lanes.
We are very proud of the accomplishments of all of our (East Coasters) They not only had some impressive runs, but brought home several records. Dave Gray #3611 56 Corvette
That was another one of my favorites out there. Your car has the total gun to a knife fight vibe to it.
Ron' I don't know if I'll ever get out to see this spectacle but the stellar coverage you and the other members who attend this is much appreciated. Thank you...
Thank's Ron and I love your vibe on my ride. It's a real Henry body & frame & I just finished it in Feb. & have all most 10K miles on it to date.
Nice work Ron. Thanks for your effort in posting these pics for us, and thanks to the other pic posters. A little ass kissing so people remember us outer owners, who don't do fb.
I agree with kiwijeff, and appreciate that guys who go take the time to share their pics with us. It's 50 years since I was there and it sure has grown a lot since them. And I wont ever make it back there again so I enjoy looking at all the pics so many thanks to all the pic posters. Oh and I don't do Facebook or Instagram so I rely on the threads on the HAMB.
I'am with you Swifty as I was there 4 times in the 60's , and love all the great pics that are posted on the HAMB Hard to believe all the changes in the little old town of Windover I once knew Thanks a bunch guys DND
Thanks for posting, been to El Mirage a few times, but never B-Ville. Definitely on my bucket list. Let's hope the weather cooperates for the next few years..
Great pics indeed, many are same as I took. I tried to take pics of all I could in two days, will post some when I get back to New Zealand in a week. JW
great pic - where is it at so that I can get a copy? friend's v8-60 powered Belly Tank in shot. Thanks
A word of advice to all of you who ever want to go... Get there on the first Saturday because easily one third of the participants leave on Sunday evening after accomplishing their goals. There are still plenty of cars and a lot to see on Monday and Tuesday, but you will miss seeing some great cars. My friend that stayed for Wednesday said that there were less cars than on Tuesday.
Thought i would post a picture of Bob Dalton leaving on one of his two passes. Few pictures of Bob as he doesn't have a PR guy. Neither pass anything to write about. And what blows me away. Him cutting out the leading edge of his rear wing. Way out of my league.
Bonneville was a lot of fun this year, with many racers setting records. Salt was not the best, but after the past 2 years cancellations, it felt real good to be back there. The sights and sounds are always unforgettable. Seeing and catching up with friends that I only see at Bonneville. Always a lot of great hot rods running around.
I'am with you Rich on his leading edge as I just have standard machines, no NC spoken here They sure do amazing work DND
Always great to see you Ron, and even better to watch that big blue beauty go! See you next year for sure. All the best, Tim
