Apparently the Poteet /Main Speed Demon is now v8 powered and producing north of 2000 horsepower. Herbert's Streamliner powered by twin vipers looks like it may show as well. If you've never seen cars traveling above 300 mph , this year could be a real thriller!
Alas the Strange Days Bellytank wont be there this year. We're getting real close, but as anyone who works on cars knows, everything takes longer than expected. We still work on it consistantly and I suspect it'll be February before we are complete. We post our progress each week here: http://kaparich.homestead.com/Bellytank.html Regardless, The Strange Days crew will be on the salt in August without the car. There's just not a better automotive event anywhere. I suspect this will be an annual event for me till I die. I'm already itching to load up and go.
I watched Al Teague's run in the 90's. That was a real eye opener. It sounded the same in all the gears. It revved up, changed gears and repeated. The rooster tail at speed was really impressive. Bonneville is all about things that aren't what you expect. The engine sound doesn't always match what you are seeing. I'd like to see all the streamliners run. The only thing I'd like to do more than that is be the pilot!
I talked to doug herbert at richmond NHRA race last year. I was wearing a bonneville streamliner shirt and getting an autograph from Jack Beckman he said you need to go talk to doug that he was building a streamliner for bonneville. I did go over. a really nice guy . Jack wants to drive the streamliner really bad.
