Your shots are just breathtaking. I've been patiently waiting and hoping that you would post yours on the HAMB. Please, please, please post more when you get a chance. Also, did you happen to get a shot of the SoCal HHR that went end over end by any chance?
http://scta-bni.org/ Go here to find out. I'm following the Bones Crew Sam Sampson racing and North of 49....
No, I didnt get any shots of the HHR during it's accident, I was at the starting line. I do have shots of it the day before it was destroyed. I did see the video shortly after the accident. HOLY SHIT! It looked like dice rolling across the salt. He hit 246 (broke the 226 mph record) threw his chute and thats when the vehicle rolled an tumbled. I've heard the the driver is ok with no problems. So there is good news. I shot some film this year...believe it or not...so when I get around to scanning some of the negatives, I'll post more. other stuff I simple can not post due to magazine obligations. But I can post these.....
unbelievable shots... I can think of more than one id like on my wall.. hopefully one day i will be lucky enough to take my car there!!
Those photos were awsome!!! We were supposed to try and make it this year, but work and stuff conflicted, but man those photos are great. Thanks.
Beautiful Reminds me why I want to go there SO DAMN BAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing. Paul
Ii just got back. met alot of hamb members...im crappy at remembering names, but i will say they were all a bunch of super people. I saw that hhr wreck and it was incredible the driver survived. When you're going that fast and you dont have a wall or another car to slow you down its amazing how far you can roll and flip through the air. there were also a couple of amazing spin outs right at the 4 mile mark. There was an aussie there that caught the hhr flip and the two spinouts on video...he (ive forgotten his name)told me he would give the videos to a hamb member buddy of his (forgotten his name too) So eventually they will show up here or on the web somewhere for all to see. That picture above of the old polished trailer doesnt show it, but that thing opens up on the rounded end side and they put their car in there. I took a bunch of pics. Im no pro though. when i go through them i will post any that are halfway decent.
Fulfilling a dream from the 50s' , I worked my butt off, ran parts , mopped floors and saved my coin , borrowed my mothers '56 ford wagon and hauled ass to the flats just to actually see and hear the legendary beasts that migrate to the salt . This was 1957 and your pictures brought back many a fond memory of me and my buddy and our teen age adventure . We keep saying we'll go back someday ,perhaps next year .
Sorry most of my pics were from the staging lanes as Hooley got ready to run but it was an awsome experiance. Must go every year from now on. There is even one of the 974 stude spinning @221mph.
Wow, that is cool stuff, I gotta get down there. I have a quesion for you guys with Bonneville experience. I don't know squat about SCTA-BNI, but after looking through their info on the website, it looks like my '51 Ford pickup with the flathead would run in the XF/MP class? (standard flathead, modified pickup). The record for this class is only 96.383mph. (you see where I'm going with this.....) I don't know, maybe I'm not reading things correctly. (sorry to hijack the thread) Gary
