Hot Rods BONNEVILLE: Speed Week QUESTION

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by KIRK!, Mar 25, 2010.

  1. *****in' Photo, I can't wait to see the Legion Special in person this summer.

  2. For us, it usually gets busier as the week progresses. More runs = more wrenching. Kirk, you are welcome to lend a hand anytime on Wednesday . . . Roadster #426 . . .
As for watching, I never can get enough of the action at the long course starting line. Where else on Earth can you stand right next to a 1929 Model A Fuel Roadster being readied for a 250mph+ run?
    77 days to go . . . can't wait!

That was '07. Lost three wheel bearings (replaced the fourth as a precaution) that year. I still have the fuzziest alternator (but still working) you'll ever see.

Mazzoma. I, too, am shocked. I figured Bonneville would have been almost genetic in your case.

Hans. Hope to see you there. You won't be the only one smiling. As soon as you drop off the asphalt that place puts a stupid grin on your face thats damn near impossible to wipe off.

Honestly I usually leave by Wed, I get pretty sunburnt and get tired of the sun by wed. Racing is still going good and strong by Wed and many people clear out by wed, so finding a camping spot in the bend is no problem.

Of course I never camp at the bend anymore. too many drunks and too much noise, the best time to get up is 4:30 am and get out onto the salt by 5-5:30 am and watch all the action in the impound lot then to the line by 6am to watch the record runs. There is nothing like watching the sun come up over the horizon.

I run the record impound at all salt events. There are still plenty of records being set from Wed on to the 1/2 day Friday runs. True, some have left and the car/bike you are hoping to see run may have gone. The ones remaing are trying just as hard as the ones who have reached their goals.

Bottom line is if you have the opportunity to attend do it.

BTW, Buick59 - check your watch, the gate doesn't open until 6 AM.

Everyone is welcome to come by impound and say Hi. I don't get out much anymore.

Hey Dan, hope to see you in warnerville again this year.
Let the truck rust, it can be replaced, Bonniville is more than a race, its where we came from and where we are going. Don't miss it in your lifetime.

If being in on the big action at the hotel with all the look at me rods, the weekend is when you want to be there but the racing is pretty serious all week and most of the posers are gone by noon Monday.

I think some guys go to Bonneville and even though they go out on the salt for a while every day they never stop and watch a car make a p*** as they are too busy making sure everyone sees them and their car there along with getting the all important (hell yes they are) car on the salt with the mountains in the background shots.
If you are actually going for the racing you won't be disappointed later in the week.

That does not mean I dont get in line at 5:30. So I'm off a bit on my time, no biggie. The point is, getting there early in the AM is the most valuable part of the day.

I couldn't agree more. I dont camp at the bend anymore due to the amount greaserbillys that stay up till 4am. I honestly wonder if many of them actually care about the racing or volunteer any of their time to help out the SCTA. Or if it is just another place to party and drink and be seen by each other. Who knows.

There's still plenty of action out there from tues., wed. and on. Plenty of racing still happening and lots of freindly, ******** gearheads still around. The Bean Bandits BBQ at the KOA campground always happens on tues. or wed. evening, it's a hoot and everybody's welcome. On thur. last year, the lines at the starting line were nice and short so we were hot lapping Julio's Bean Bandit belly tank, taking turns suiting up and making p***es and having a blast.

Plus, the meathead factor is way down with most of the slapped ***, look at me crowd gone home to search for pictures of themselves on the internet.

Greatest car show in the world is saturday & sunday, plus the car show that goes on at the Nugget at night, I think, anyway its the old Stateline. By wednesday the pits are pretty empty, a good time to race but not see cars. as far as spectating they really dont care much about you, its for the racers. best spot is the starting line. After 2 days my brain is fried from the heat & sun. last year was the coolest Ive ever seen it. Wear everything white & bring your own popup canopy for shade. They have good food now on the salt. Just my 2 pennys worth

We should (hopefully) be running through Wednesday; I'm hoping to use Thurs and Fri to get to the HAMB drags on the way back to NoCarolina. Please stop by and see us in the pits or on the line. #325 D/GRMR Look for the grouchy older guy. vic
