I know it's late, but a few of us are trying to get to Bonneville Speedweek for our first time. Does anyone have an extra room, or know of any?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

By now ANY rooms are in "short supply."
Due to the fire in one hotel/motel the number has been reduced further.

You might consider one of the towns - Wells for example - that are within a short drive of the "flats"; and see if they may have any rooms left.

Or, bring a sleeping bag and a tent and camp out at "bend in the road.**"
There are showers at the truck stop on I 80.

**"Bend in the road" is where the access road turns to drive out to the salt.

Thanks for the response Digger Dave. I think I got lucky and got a room, at least I have a confirm number. :)

    Jack,

I think I just got lucky. I spent half the day today on the phone trying to track something down. At least I have a confirm number, hopefully there will be a room too! Worst case, we'll be camping at the Bend, or driving 'til we find something. It's all part of the adventure! Good luck.

Geeze we've been calling for rooms since Jan 1 (We were told by the hotels we couldn't reserve until then) We recently just gave up and were gonna camp but decided to snag a room in Wells instead. I'm too old to camp =) ....nice job if you really get the room.

I'll say , Lucky, you must have caught them just at the time someone cancelled, with that luck you better hit the tables! You know, Last year I had ten rooms reserved and when I did'nt fill them all I canceled a couple at the Nugget and asked the guy if they filled the place and he said they had quite a few still open,,, and this was about a week before Speed Week!! Thats why I did'nt get too excited this year and called the second week in Jan and the whole stinkin' town was booked,,,, Go figure! I'm thinking you will see a bunch of rooms come available in the last week,,, It's a **** shoot!!

A lot of "old timers" over book a block of rooms for the next year, as they are leaving.

When it gets closer to the following Speed Week, they decide that they don't need so many, and cancel the ones they don't need at the last moment. Often right up to the last week before.

The fact that the price goes from the regular $24.95 to $99.95 a night during Speed Week; five of the hotels in Wendover are owned by the same guy, because racers don't spend as much time at the tables.

So the credit card number they gave the hotel when they made the reservation, WILL get charged.
As a result, at the last min., if they don't need them, they will let them go.

    As A.G. says, "It's a **** shoot!"
If your in the right place - time - you sometimes get lucky!!

One "trick" that has worked; many of the racers only are there for the first weekend - either they "broke" or don't have enough holiday time.
So they checkout on Sun. or Mon.

So you stay in Wells for the first 3 or 4 nights; then check-in to one of the hotels in Wendover for the remainder of Speed Week.
And usually at the lower room rate!

BTW - If you think you can check-out on Mon. and then check back in - to get the lower rate - CAREFUL!
Doesn't always work. The hotel staff are getting "wise" to this little maneuver!
(got caught myself - had to change hotels to make it work!!)

  10. I am so desperate for a room as well.. I call everyday and nothing ****ing ****s my wife is not too happy about camping..
