    hey guys,

thanx for helping me find and recomend books for my research paper on the cars and car culture of the early to mid fifties

    came apon a snag though

i cant find very many of the books in the library at school, any of the city librarys, or even the other colleges in town and the local area.

i just started a state wide search of iwa but i dont know what will show up.

any ideas how i can find these to use for research. i can find them all availible for purchase but thatd end up being a coule hundred dollars that i dont have.

ill post the books in looking for tonight but has anybody any ideas other then driving an hour and a half to the closest barns and nobles to read the whole book while im at the store lol.

    thanx alot

    tim

Try www.abebooks.com It is a listing from booksellers around the world. I rarely can't find something that I
    am looking for there.

You belong to or can join the libraries at your school and your town. Both are connected to a variety of local, state, and even bigger networks. Ask for the Interlibrary Loan office at local or county level. They will locate libraries that have the books you need and borrow them for your use. In most areas, they come through a courier service rather quickly. Normally, if the librarian is any good he can find just about anything, books or magazines. Their database can also give you the actual locations of the books in case there's a library within driving range that has what you need. A good librarian should also be able to locate more stuff on your topic that you're not even aware of.

It would surprise me if there actually are many books better for your research than a good stack of old mags from the years you are looking into. Also all the Barris tech books has long prefaces which give good glipses into life around the early kustoms, at least in LA, -especially if you read a little between the lines.

If it helps, I have a paperback of hot rod fiction from back in the day, including Henry Gregor Felson, who wrote great novels & stories about hopped up cars and the people hopped up over them. They were written in the 50's, if I remember well, and you could angle it in yer research as a period-piece, a literary representative of hot rodding in its time. Let me know if yer interested, and I'll mail it to you.

I've used a few book searches to find some relatively rare and hard to find stuff.

    abebooks.com is one.

    aint nothin' free.
