A few weeks ago I removed the body off the 55 Chevrolet, and checked out the frame. I knew it wasn't perfect, but I didn't know how not perfect... As you can see...its FUBAR.

So I decided to build a new one rather than fix this one.... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143229.181378.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143264.564464.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143302.285218.jpg
I spent my lunch hour and drew up my plans for a new frame.

I don't have a frame jig, so the welding table at work was as close as I could get... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143509.420918.jpg
You can see my redneck frame jig...

I built on rail and then clamped the other rail to it, so they would match... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143591.497371.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143601.852504.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143616.109741.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143638.087634.jpg
The notches in the rails are for the springs.

I still needs to put the front rails on... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448143863.200881.jpg
But I had to take a little bit of bend out of the frame. This is the hillbilly way of doing it.

I put a few temporary cross members in to kee everything where it was supposed to be before doing the front. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448144013.461351.jpg
Then I fixtured the front rails and fit and welded them in place... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448144071.472381.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448144083.226718.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448144095.401184.jpg

I hope to build the front crossmember and suicide spring mount, so I can get this sucker rolling next weekend.

Coil spring rear '55 Chevy.. Not many of them around. Nice job on the frame build. I couldn't muster that project in my tiny shop. I am hand fabbing traction bar brackets with a wore out band saw and a grinder..lol.

The Nelson, Sinclair and Fogliadini 56 Chevy is one of my favorites. It was coil spring rear and suicide front suspended. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448202812.369865.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1448202834.130582.jpg
Plus the coil springs are way lighter.[emoji51]

  16. I was just thinking with all this work Kip and myself have been getting where are the other 3 bandits been hiding all I hear is crickets? I'm guessing they are just running scared with the way The Skairlane and The Shenanigan are looking lol. Got my wheel tubs done, a little tin work done, new correct size tires mounted, cardboard firewall made aluminum will be here tomorrow, also took about 20 more pounds of extra un needed metal off it

I built the front crossmember today. I could have bought a speedway suicide front mount, but they're for. 3" crossmember, and I thought that was overkill. This one is 2" .134 wall DOM, and the spring pad is 3/16" mild steel plate.

Here's the frame back at the Old Boys shop. I had to slide the front suspension under it.
