IMG_6415.PNG I'm swapping a Datsun L16 and auto trans from what I was told an early 70's Datsun 510 into my wife's 55 Metropolitan. I took it for it's first test drive today and I wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I believe the trans I have is a Borg Warner 35, but does't have the provision for a kickdown cable. Just a vacuum modulator on the rear, the four wire neutral safty/reverse light switch on the side, and then a single wire plug just below where the kickdown should be on the front DS corner. Can anyone help me determine for sure what trans I have, so I can start troubleshooting it. Thanks! 543671967_3145053152340297_93518156241492541_n.jpg View attachment 6642677 IMG_E6421.JPG IMG_0946 (1).JPG

Should be the Borg Warner AS18-35EC. Good luck finding info on it...the normal 510 shop manual doesn't have anything except the model number. There is probably some service info somewhere about it.

beware that BW made automatic transmissions for lots of different brands of cars, and each one had it's own design for control, etc. So don't expect the Model 35 for a Rambler or a Volvo etc. to have the same setup as the Datsun.
