I have used a ton of products from them. Both of my on-topic rides have boxes from them. Zero issues. I have no reason to believe that this would be of any lesser quality. It is nice to see that this need is being met by the market.
Did the wrecking yards run out of suitable steering boxes that would work for side steer ? $360 + seems like a lot of money ?
You've got a choice; you can either buy new, pull it out of the box and put it on, or you can try to find a salvage that has anything old enough to be appropriate, spend all day fighting rusted fasteners while lying on your back in the cold mud (if winter) or in goat-head stickers (if summer), then once you get your prize home you've got to clean it up/rebuild it/modify it to work. You also need to consider most hot-rod shops charge north of a hundred bucks an hour (the high-end shops charge "lawyer money" an hour) and all of a sudden buying new is cheaper and quicker.
Time is not free. If you spend a day traveling to yards to find the right one, and another day cleaning it up for use, irrespective of the cost of the used part, parts to refresh it, or to get it, you have used up two days. $360 ÷ 16 = $22.50/hr God forbid you need to put in a third day. $360 ÷ 24 = $15.00/hr. If your ability to earn is less than that, then take the time, and put in the work. I do my best to permiate the Engineers that I lead with the same philosophy that I have about the value of time. You make the promise to your regular employer that they can have access to 40-hours of your time at a discounted rate. You will allow them the discount to cover the overhead of keeping the lights on, the facility lease paid, and the business incorporated, etc. After those 40-hours are used up, the discount comes off, and the rate per hour goes to 1.5x the discounted rate. That is the real minimum value of your time. Put in your own number. After 11-hours and 59-minutes are extended in any one continuous period, or work is required on the 7th consecutive day, a 2x penalty rate is engaged. In short, I am of the firm belief that you should not ever value your time at less than 1.5x if not 2x what you are paid at your regular job. Outside of the tech sector, most employers still keep a running total of, and cap personal, vacation, and sick days. If you run out, you get to be out unpaid. Unless you are unlucky, you only get two uninterrupted days in a week to spend with your family. I will give each of you the benefit of the doubt that you love them, and enjoy spending time with them. If you burned your vacation and personal days chasing and fixing parts that have a value that is less than what you would have earned working those days, then you neither have the money nor the paid time to spend that with your family. Rods and customs should not ever be about sacrificing the quality of the relationships with your friends and family. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
You ^^^^^^ have some , strange ideas about a hobby , a hobby you love is not quantifiable ,spending time on it never seemed wasted , neither is time with your family , must be cause you're so ( self) important ?
Time is money. I am the ultimate scrounger but sometimes you just gotta buy the new part, in the end it usually comes out saving you money.
My level of importance is not set by me. It is set by the relationships that I have with the people that I associate with, and the contributions that I make to their comfort and wellbeing. They universally agree that it is high.
I have not used that steering box in Model A chassis. My last was an OEM Mustang box made to fit my Model A application. My current steering box, also mounted on a Model A frame, is a Vega unit. Hopefully others will respond to your question about the Borgeson box appropriately. Not much information available on them online.
I have always used the F-100 box in my Model A's but this Borgeson box looks like it could be a good alternative. F-100 boxes are getting harder to find and the rebuild parts more costly. Just put it out there for helpful info.
