My most vivid memories of Ramblers as a kid in the 50's and 60's was seeing them along the road with a front wheel folded under them:eek:

You may be right that Martin bros did but I can be foggy minded :D but if I remember correctly, Richard and Aaron pulled it out of a field , plans were to update ch***is but they went with I believe a Morrison ch***is and than they found a 1950’s era print fabric for the interior and left the outside original patina . A guy and his kid test drove with Richard before buying it .

This may ruffle some feathers but there are some kustoms I wouldn’t want any part of from the late 50’s. Drawer pull grilles, canted headlights, frenched anything and everything. Provenance or not...no thanks.
    The Rambler looks goooooooood.

68787.jpg I wonder how many Cool kids got spanked by this bad boy. Ugly as it is, lots of firsts in it's design. I have heard for years that Ramblers were piles of ****. Usually from guys who bought a pile of **** and beat on it to ensure it wouldn't survive, yet their buddies equally ****py and abuse Chevy wasn't for some reason, such a pile.

  10. Strange cars...... good engines (IIRC the overhead sixes had 7 main bearings), strange styling (although I liked the small Ramblers and Americans), and the full sized models had a face only a mother could love. Also had weak front spindles (I saw a lot of them broken back in the day). But.... they had a die-hard following of those who loved 'em!
Of interest is that the '56 or '57 Rebel was the quickest factory full sized car available, including the big three!
Good luck, Squirrell, it's gonna set you apart in a crowd!

Anything OLD actually on the road is cool now. It draws attention of the general public.
Most of the high end cars are in garages or trailers.

A few postd back, someone posted a Stude Lark. In the 60s' I drove a Lark that looked boring, but was NOT. Had an R-2 Avanti drive train, was VERY FAST & handeled well ........

Used to sit at a stoplight and watch the other cars go by, but now, what is there to see?! A coworker had a car similar to the Lamer and it was called the Albatross because the front fenders flopped as it went down the road.

  16. Shoot, as much as I love Fords and Chevies, they have kinda gotten out of my current price range. I’d buy that Rambler and drive the wheels off of it. I wouldn’t even think twice about rebuilding the engine if it needed it. Like some others have mentioned, I think it’s cool because it’s old and you don’t see very many anymore. I’d walk past trifive Chevies to look at the Rambler at a show.

Cars like this motivate me to find more old stuff and get it back on the road where it belongs and people can see it. It doesn’t have to be nice or some mainstream car to enjoy it and to make people smile. I have seen that with my sons Edsel. Not sure I have been to the gas station one single time that folks didn’t smile and comment on it. Pretty sure it gets more attention than my nicer 2-door Fairlane now that I think about it.

Thanks to my Dad having a 60 Amb***ador, I learned a new word back then as in "trunnion" along with some new to me swear words. When the lower fails going around a corner, the front wheel gets in a real strange position. It was white, **** ugly, was a four door also and my Dad had named it the white winged warrior, the trunnion failure clipped it's wings !

Took Driver's Ed in a 4 door Rambler in 1966. Didn't care what kind of car it was. It was my ticket to my license at 16.

I was made fun of for driving mine while in High school but this was back in the day guys were driving their brother's hand me down muscle cars to school. Fast forward to now, it does not only stand out at shows but on the road as well. You just have to make it look cool. 741.jpg 691.jpg 502.jpg

Did I mention that she's had her Lark for almost as long as the wagon. This puppy sports a 289 Kettering and 4-speed from a later Gran Turisimo.... Lark 004.JPG

It's funny Jim, a lot of us have found a quirky old ride we wouldn't be caught dead in when we were in our teens, today some of them are so odd we take a liking to them.

As a teenager it had to be a 2door, if one of my friends was driving a 4 door we accused him of driving his mothers car, even if the front bumper and hubcaps were removed.

I recent hers I have owned 2 1932 Ford fordors and found them to be a pleasure to drive and the back doors were a advantage when loading the car for a road trip.

I really like your Rambler, looks like a fun car. HRP
