UPDATE - just spoke quickly to my dad as he was loading up for Hershey..

He BUILT that car, with the drivetrain from the '36 Ford Pickup!! And he took credit for the front 'plate'.

I'll have to sit down with him when he gets back from the show and find out all of the details to share here.

    STAY TUNED.

I have not been to Stafford in many years...When I was building my car, I always went to the fall meet. Although there is an occasional good find down there, most of the good stuff goes to E Bay. Keep looking through your old pictures...I have some more that I will be posting soon.

Great thread. Brought back a lot of memories for me , and great to see the pictures of all these local Hot Rods and drag cars. Love the picture of Richie Willet with the 2 women in his A-Highboy (which later became Ed Murray's that Kelsey flamed and Ed put in a blown SB Chevy). Great stuff.

  7. Where are you on the North Shore, Baron? I was down my dad's tonight in Medford working on the cars...

I'm in Manchester and my shop is in Gloucester. If your ever out this way, swing by the shop. Always one project in the works.

  9. I bet you know my dad, he recently retired but was a supplier to shops all over the North Shore...my sister has now taken over the business.

Hey Jack,Steele bought that car from Bob Ramstrom with the FlintstoneCharger paint,I think Bob Steele probably bought this car when Bob Ramstrom had bought his new 68 Hemi Dart.Coronet was originally owned by John Macy and called Vermont Shaker, was real liteweight race hemi car, already had rear wheels moved up when Bob Ramstrom bought probably spring of 67,later, SteveO/Dummy

I was the one who painted that 36 for Larry Foxy as we worked together at Kwik Spray when i got him a job there and at the same time i had a 37 ford all yellow with flames and those were the good old days, heres some names to see if you remember, Richie Williett, Sunny Ventuti, Sal Demarie, Richie Labella, Don Libby, Charlie Norfork, George Lane, Richie Lane, John DiCicco, Timmy Carroll, Domenic Tringali, Mike Sullivan, Lance, Jimmy Nagle, Chris Tello, Tommy Clark, Richie Delapeano, Frank Judge, and lots more amd of course me Rich Tringali I opened Richies Customs on Broadway in Malden, MA back in the 70's as i use to drive around in my chopped 59 t bird and 72 charger 440 six pack after i sold my 69 big block vette. I have a ton of stories and remember these ars, the moose, the whale, mystery wrecker AKA Boston Hooker, Earth angel, The wanderer, High School Memories, Black Magic Women, The Thumper, Sour Puss one and two from the old PV speed shop at the corner in everett mass on main street? those were my days as a kid and today im still doing it :)

Hey Rich. Have not seen you since I bought the 50 Merc from you back in 1981. That was a great car. This is what it looked like when I was finished with it.

This was many years later when when Kevin Lavin owned it. It had just left Kelsey's with fresh paint and flames.

  14. Had dinner at the Hilltop with Sonny and Sal last August when I was out there for my youngest son's wedding.Haven't seen Don Libby in years(remember when he drove Richie Willet's old red Deuce to Detroit in 72 for the Street Rod Nationals with his wife and the two kids in the rumble seat and a Turtle Top attached to the roof?)and sadly Rich LaBella and Timmy have left us.Did some striping for both of them.Haven't talked to Richie Willet in awhile either but he never changes anyway lol.
Whereabouts on Broadway were you?Anywhere near Robin Adair? There was a car club(the Strokers maybe?)across the road from them.Frank D'Agostino and Eddie Cook were members and I think it was Frank's garage.Just a couple doors down from Adair's was old man Ryan's place where the two 36 Fords were sitting in the driveway.I think Richie was friends with him.I remember he used to come into the school(Malden Voke)to the machine shop to have stuff made. The instructor(Will Schmidt)was a friend of his. I went there with Tom O'Connell who was one of the Hard Guys with Jim Mahan.
I used to hang out on Monkey's Corner(on the Malden-Everett line on Ferry St.)and one of the guys I hung with;his old man was a bartender at the Knotty Pine. We'd hide out there when the cops chased us out.Alex later started A-Z Appliance there. He drove a black 59 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with a continental kit!Thing must have been 20 feet long.
We used to hang down Revere Beach until a couple of the guys from the corner were drunk and got into a fight.A cop going off duty tried to break it up and they turned on him. They arrested a bunch of us that night for inciting a riot and put a couple guys in the hospital.Went to court and the judge sent the two guys to Shirley for two years. The rest were dismissed.
Sorry for the long rant;just remembering the old days.

I was next door to where sal had the breakfast place and kwik spray was there then my shop i was right across from burger king next to broadway glass and then we got a house in malden on the same side as the mouse where you took the street to go to richies, across from the old corbins auto parts and the old goodmans towing and remember i chopped a 36 sedan and my friend chico drove it off the wall hahahaha. god those were so much fun those days, i remember going to summys venutis xmas party and me him and 2 other guys took of in my chopped 59 thunderbird and went crusing for awhile and god the wifes and gf's were not happy when we got back late hahahaha we all need to get together sometime im doing a 50 ford now as im taking 6 inches out of the top and just gonna make it old school paint and start getting some more cars out this year

  18. Hopefully there will be a reunion of sorts come September if we can put it together. Ken Frederick and Don Cavanaugh were discussing such a meet at the Turkey Run this year.As none of us are getting any younger(I'll be 69 in a few weeks)and all are experiencing some type of health issue, they thought it would be a good idea to get together for a final session of bench racing;trading lies, and the like.Ken thought it would be a good idea for everyone to bring their current ride(he lives in Florida but is willing to drive up if necessary).I think my 55 Safari has one more Right Coast Adventure in her although I'd like to have my 57 Safari done by then.
The details are not worked out yet but I will keep everyone up to date as it plays out.
I really like looking at these threads as there seems to be so much I've forgotten about what it was like back then.

Rich PV speed was in Everett before it was across from Pine Banks? Also do you remember a guy from Everett named Steve Liston with a silver colored ( at least I think it was silver) 66or 67 Comet?

I think there may be some confusion... PV was on Salem St. Malden in the late sixties up until about 1971. They moved to Main St. Malden, near the Melrose line, and are still there. There was a speed shop in Everett on Main St. near the rotary. I think the name was Performance Automotive or something close to that.

Safariknut has to put all his pictures back on that post. ;)

  23. PV actually had two locations on Salem Street;the first was a small shop on the right side heading toward Malden Square and later they moved across the street and slightly down to the second shop. They then moved to the Main St. ;ocation near Pine Banks Cemetery.

There was also a speed shop on Broadway in Malden just past the Salem St.intersection heading toward Everett that was called,"A&J Speed".It was run by Ade Knyff and Joe Palladino. Not sure how long it was in business but it started around 1971 or 72.Joey had a 55 Chevy that skip Clement had originally lettered and he had John Silva from Peabody re-paint parts of it and I added more lettering and striping to it.I also lettered a white pearl Duster at the speed shop called,"Mission Possible" in variegated gold leaf. Not sure who the owner was;I did it for Joe.

  24. I wish I could but my computer does not allow me to post pictures on here anymore.I deleted something when I was trying to fix it and now I can't put whatever it was back in.shows you what happens when you let amateurs screw around with electronics.:D
