I got a set of wheels that came with a flathead engine I bought. they are kinda like mag wheels but in the shape of pepsi bottles, steel welded to aluminum... I was wondering what is the proper name for these and when/what were they normally used for? thanks... I can post pictures when i get off of work today if need be. __________________
I have a set that look like you described and they are american racing wheels . Im not sure what they are called but they look like daises. Have you got a picture? Spanky
I used to have a falcon with a set of those. I have always heard them called daisy wheels, or coke bottle wheels.
yep, that's them, thork... thanks !!! so coke bottle wheels or american racer 2000's is their common name? when did they come out, the 60's?
Late 69 early 70's. Some were cast, one piece aluminum deals, others were aluminum centered like a Cragar mag. The CP200s were chrome plated, on a steel wheel, often with black paint in the recesses like a Keystone. I have a set of 15x7's and 15x10's They made some 15x4's that are rare as hen's teeth. Western, or maybe US Indy made some wheels that were very similar, but had skinnier spokes. These are fairly hard to come by... http://www.roadsters.com/wheels/ http://mysite.verizon.net/res1ksb2/id2.html
I always heard of them called and prefer to call them Daisies. Coke Bottle? Is it like calling a Chevy a Shoebox?... I guess. Might be another one of those regional things. I can't see that they have any part that looks even remotely like a Coke bottle. (RC bottle maybe?) A Coke bottle is identified by it's trademarked waist. Those spokes don't have waists. They look like petals... yea, like daisy petals! I guess it's because the mention of any part of a soda bottle makes me think of Centerline Convo Pro "Bottle Caps" Those are too new to HAMB too, but at least they aren't "Dubs"
I had a set on my 72 Charger back in the 80's they were cast aluminum with a polished lip and cast center. American Racing stilll makes them although they aren't a one piece cast wheel anymore http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/wheels.asp?section=V
