Above all, it is a great investment. Enjoy it, care for it, drive it, show it --in 4-6 years sell it when the market is peaking again. But keep it stock.

Certainly not your average '32 roadster:) and as such I agree with no drastic modifications. Your plan of very minor changes is a wise one and with nicer weather just around the corner you'll be able to get some "top down" cruising done.

  7. In the air its aeroplaning, on the sea that's aquaplaning, but on the land, hot diggity dog, THAT'S TERRAPLANING.

Terraplane: the plane that skims along the earth.

Of course, when they break, its a terrible pain and you get the Terraplane Blues!

Always enjoy seeing HET threads. Enjoy that convertible!

  9. Does anyone keep a registry of Hudson Italias (based on the Hudson Jet)? I once owned IT-10015 and wonder where it is today. Thanks

  10. StilloutThere: You can contact the Hudson-Es***-Terraplane Club for the listing of known Italia owners. Back in the day I knew several of their owners including the one off 4-door prototype built in a Hornet platform. I'm guessing that after 30+ years, most have changes hands.

I spent many years in the HET Club back in the 60's and 70's. Your '34 Terraplane is not only a beautiful design, but very rare...but you knew that. The only ones rarer are the T8's with the longer wheelbase and the streight 8 engine.
Congradulations on finally adding it to your collection.

Wow, what a beautiful car in great condition - congrats on the score and I admire your diligence in acquiring it!

  12. I'm familiar with the T8s having restored and driven one back a while ago myself.

  19. What did that SUPER RARE roadster sell for at auction?

  20. I'm familiar with Ruskins, I brought this '34 Terraplane tourer to the states from Melbourne about 1985 or so. Sold it though to help finance a new house in a new state.

  23. So, I get a pic in email here in my small city of 22K people from a friend who says "My neighbor just bought a car....". Now, there has probably not been a Terraplane in this city for FIFTY YEARS would be my guess and what did this guy buy? Yep, a '34 Terraplane. Pic attached.

Once I get my convert sorted out I guess we'll have to meet out on "Three Mile Rd"..... and decide King of the Terraplanes.

  24. This is a bump to get readers because I'm looking for a solid original front axle from either a '34 or '35 Hudson or Terraplane. This car has the "Axle-Flex" double beam front end which didn't prove to be the best engineering and was dropped like so many '30s attempts to get "independent". Straight axles were in most cars. Someone building a street rod with a Fat-Man, I'll buy your original axle.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do also have a Cl***ified ad going (without result).

very beau***ful car. I can understand how it got in your blood . great job being persistant.

  26. I do intend to leave this car absolutely stock, using the stock factory fender skirts, but a friend to whom I sent the light colored factory photo is trying to encourage the '40s custom rod look.

2 more inches of chop, deeply lowered suspension, Hollywood flipper hub caps.

Mine will be coming out of the 35 Coupe Special within the next month but already sold to my friend. I can ask if he wants to sell it to you if you want. Send me a pm with your offer and I will see what I can do.

  28. Doug, Hey thanks, I needed to get back in here with an update. I did find a '34 solid beam Terraplane axle on Craig's list in Tucson, AZ and the seller had some other '34 parts so I took a road trip over and got parts and made a new friend there. Don't need the one from your car and your friend is welcome to keep it for his needs.

Update on my car. ***embly coming along; dash wood graining done, stock drive train back in place, sheet metal back together with the grille edge done back in Velchrome (argent) silver as when new. Pics attached

Nice to see a survivor early 30s conv. Not many get to own one, never mind a low mile never weathered car.

I did get to see a 33 T-plane conv in John Monroe's junkyard in Owls Head Maine a long time ago. I asked to see all the early convs. He had quite a few convs of all years which suprised me due to the short summers. They may have been cars kept at summer homes.

Another rare one there was a 35 DeSoto conv. No doors...and 10 years later I saw some doors at Hershey...but John's place was crushed out by then.
